Dear host family,
First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Pherapa, or you can call me Aim from Bangkok, Thailand. In my family, we have 4 members including my dad, mom, an elder brother, and me. We spend a great deal of time together, whether it is playing sports, singing karaoke, watching movies, and traveling. My brother, who is passionate about engineering, helps me a lot with mathematics and physics. On weekends, I often go shopping and dine out with my family. We also love cooking at home in creating special dishes and sharing them together. At home, I usually help to hang and collect clothes. I also sweep the floor on weekends, and wash dishes every day. Sometimes, I water the plants, which helps me feel relaxed.
For my character, I am an optimistic, cheerful, and open-minded person. I often close others with a smile and casual conversations, which helps me easily build new friendships whether at school or during various camp activities. Moreover, I enjoy learning and exchanging new attitudes with people. My favorite place, which holds a lot of special memories for me, is Phuket island in southern Thailand. I could see airplanes flying overhead up close which was very exciting. In my spare time, I play sports like badminton, basketball, and volleyball, and I often play with my friends after school. When I saw my friends playing, they looked so cool that it inspired me to try different kinds of sports. Although I am not very skilled yet, I am always ready to put my full effort into it. Music is another significant part of my life. I am quite good at playing the piano which I started learning at the age of 4, now I practice on my own. I also play a little guitar and sing too. I really enjoy concerts with my friends—it is a fantastic experience to touch the energy of live performances and connect with the music on a deeper level. Moreover, I often make Thai basil stir-fry which is my favorite menu as it is the first dish I learned from my mom to cook. Eating is a great way to relax as well. In the future, I would like to study about business because I desire to develop strong management skills. Additionally, I hope to gain new perspectives in diverse situations, and connect with people from many countries.
At school, I have many groups of friends with three best friends. We often have lunch every day, enjoy fun conversations and joking around. We walk around the school and play sports after school. When exam day comes, we help each other for study. We have a group that shares everything, no matter what happens. I also enjoy many subjects like Mathematics, Music, and Physical Education. English subject is my favorite because it allows me to connect with people and access a wealth of information from books to movies. Moreover, English can open opportunities for my future career prospects as well. Additionally, I am involved in the Interact Club focusing on volunteer activities and developing leadership skills. As this is my first year in the club, I have participated in repairing deteriorated parts of our school by adding new stickers to the stairs. Being part of this club has also allowed me to connect with new people both within and outside of school, for example. I had the opportunity to participate in school’s sports day. Last year, I was a volleyball player and, this year, I became a basketball player too. Even more, I got to join the cheerleading team and be part of the card stunt performance. Winning or losing is no matter, just being part of it and contributing to my school was already valuable. I was also selected to be a mentor for the 7th grade orientation camp where I introduced the school to new students, inspired them, and built good relationships between seniors and juniors. I learned to be more patient, improved my teamwork, and more confident with stronger friendships among teammates. I made music videos and short films to and I even played the main role. Another great experience was to set a booth in a school fair. I learned how to plan, manage, and attract students to my booth.
Being an exchange student, it not only provides the opportunity to experience new things but also challenges me to live abroad by my side under new environment like adaptability and problem-solving. Living in various cultures will help me grow in both my understanding of different cultures and English skills as well. I can make more American friends and broaden my horizons too. I would love to share some of Thai unique aspects like delicious Thai dishes such as Tom Yum spicy soup and Stir-fried Thai basil so people can try the flavors of Thailand if you love too. Thai traditions such as the Songkran festival, as Thai New Year celebration in April, is interesting. We make merit, bath Buddha statues, and gather among family members to start the new year. Furthermore, I hope to do outdoor activities with the host family such as traveling and joining local events, and gain understanding in daily way of life. I love to cook together and help to set up festivals which will teach me how to live in the United States. I also like to join many festivals like Christmas, Halloween with Trick or Treat, and events like Homecoming or prom at school. These experiences sound so fun, and they will teach me many new things. I hope that we can create wonderful memories together and I will do my best to contribute as a member of your family.
Sincerely yours,
Pherapa-Aim
