Dear possible hostfamily,
first, I really appreciate that you are reading this letter and considering to host me!
I am Kayla. A fifteen-year-old girl from Germany who wants to spend a half year in the United States in 2025 to learn and grow. I am looking forward to exchange our different cultural experiences and gain new knowledge, as well as improving my English.
Sadly, I am not good at cooking but I love baking. So, I cannot cook you a german dish but I will definitely bake something for you. Especially before Christmas, there are so many different cookie flavors to make together like Vanillekipferl.
Now I want to describe you my everyday life.
When I have school, I normally start the day at 6am with eating breakfast alone because my parents and my sister are still asleep or have already eaten. Besides I need a good amount of time in the morning to fix my hair because it always gets frizzy. Usually, I take the bus to school at 7am.
At school I love to learn about languages. I like to compare words and to notice that they are many similar. I have German, English and French classes. In addition history is very intersting. Everything we know today is just like that because there are lot of stories behind it.
Furthermore, we are an amazing class community because we are together since the fifth grade and have all classes together.
After school I usually come home at 1:30 pm and first look for my cat. My sister or I then start making the food when my mom comes home later. Sometimes my dad cooks as well but he just can does noodles or Chili sin carne which is nevertheless delicious. My father works from home and my mom only half-day so we spend a lot of time together and always eat lunch together.
Then I must cuddle with my cat as we did not see each other in the forenoon. My mother says we are like a long married couple because we are a well-rehearsed team.
In the afternoon I go to our horses. Often together with my mother. Sometimes to muck out the stable, but always to take them to their field and back to their stable and to check if they are alright. I also brush the horses and take riding classes since I am six years old every Tuesday and Thursday, occasionally at the weekends too. A few times a year I like to ride tournaments in dressage or show-jumping.
Additionally, I really enjoy playing badminton with my father and my best friend or eating “Coffee and cake” how it is called with my grandparents who live in the house right next to us.
Every Sunday my father buys fresh bread rolls at the bakery and we eat together. It is like a tradition.
In addition, my family often plays board games like Malefix or „Mensch ärger dich nicht“ in the evening. It is always super fun and I would love to do that also in the US with you. When we are not playing, I love to read or watch a series with my sister. For example, we are now watching “Supernatural”, as we have recently just finished “Fate – the Winx Saga”.
In general, I take part in house-keeping back home. I help doing the laundry, preparing the meals and clean the windows or the stairs furthermore taking care of our cats and horses.
Thank you so much for reading this far and I would love to be your host student!
Best regards,
Kayla
