Dear host family,
my name is Klara, I will be 16 when my exchange year starts, and I live in a city with my parents and my five years younger sister. I am in 10 th grade and my extracurricular activities include gymnastics, which I have been doing since I was 6 years old, and different volunteer jobs.

The City i live in is one of the biggest cities in the area and very famous for a soccer team. 593.317 people live here. Most of my closest friends live nearby and I love meeting up with them.

After school I go to gymnastics. I am very active in my sport club and we train three times a week. We are in the second highest league in our region. I hope it is possible to join a gymnastics club in the US as well, so that I can experience training in a country where world champions come from. During our competitions I do not only love to show the improvement, but also love the feeling of doing something in a team, supporting each other, winning, losing, and laughing together with my teammates.

What I also like is reading. In the past I was a big Harry Potter fan and I read all the books twice and watched every film. I’m a lover of fantasy books and romances. Most of my books are in German, but I have also read a few ones in English to broaden my English knowledge. Once a month we meet up in our literary circle and I have already attended a literature competition. When I have time, I like to bake cakes and try out different recipes. When I do not eat at school, I cook at home for my family and myself.

I am a very social person and do a lot of volunteer work in my church and my sport club. As an altar server in the Roman Catholic Church, I teach young kids what they must do during service together with my friends. In my sport club I help organize different events for kids and look after them. Last year we went on a canoe trip. I have also volunteered for two internships - one at a preschool and the other at a retirement home.

I’m an open-minded person, extroverted but quiet and can socialize easy with people. Another personal characteristic is that I am ambitious and independent. I always have a laugh on my site and like to help people.

In my hometown I go to a High School. A normal school day starts at 8.15 am and I get there by bus or bike. School usually ends at 13.25 o clock. But sometimes I have two more lessons and so school is until 15.35 o clock. After I have arrived at home I do my homework and meet with friends or go to my training. On the weekend I do something with my family. We are four people. My younger sister, my father, my mother, and me. My sister is the louder one of us. She goes to elementary school and plays handball and does gymnastics. She likes to meet up with friends and sometimes we mess with each other, but we love doing things together. My father rows in a sport club. He also likes to read comics or books and is a fan of the soccer team in our city. My mother likes jogging and travelling. Unfortunately our grandparents live 2 hours away from us, but we visit them whenever we can. My family is important to me, and I am glad they are all so special, kind, and generous.

Doing an exchange year would be an incredible opportunity for me. I would love to experience the American everyday life in a family and get to know family traditions. I have always imagined what it would be like to live in a different family, to call another country your home and to visit a completely different school. With doing the exchange year I could experience adventures, different cultures, and make friendships for a lifetime. I also think the exchange year will lead to unforgettable memories, and you grow more than one could know. In the future I want to have my A-Level degree and go to a university. I have not decided yet what exactly I want to do after school, but I would love to do something with people. Some ideas are to study medicine or architecture.

I would love to become a part of your family and to learn your way of living and improve my English knowledge.

I am looking forward to meeting you.
Best regards
Klara
