Dear host family,

my name is Lukas, I am a sixteen years old German boy. I have a brother who is older and with whom I always enjoyed playing soccer or riding the bike. I like to go hiking in the Alps with my family, playing board games or watching movies together with him and my parents. We also often go to a little farm which is owned by my granddad. We help him work with the woods or mow the lawn. We also have fun taking care of the hens and playing with my younger cousins.

I also like to cook for myself, my family or my friends. I think it is very interesting to try out new recipes from all around the world. Eating those dishes together is also very enjoyable.

With my friends I like to ride the bike, not only short distances but also to far-away places like Austria in my holidays. We enjoy spending time together, sitting at the fire and having a barbecue with sausages and marshmallows. We also spend much time playing volleyball at the lake in my home town.  Going to the gym with them is also an important leisure activity.

Two times a week we train in our soccer club which I started when I was four years of age. Because I like this so very much I decided to go further and do a referee license this summer. Now I am allowed to be a referee for kids and juveniles up to the age of 17 years. Therefore I am appointed almost every weekend, so in addition to my own team, where we have a game every weekend I am referee, so soccer keeps me quite busy nowadays. Sometimes, when I am lucky and get hold of tickets for my favorite team I also watch a game in the German premiere league.

Of course, sometimes doing nothing or listening to music is also very enjoyable. And when I am lying on my bed to relax, often Momo, our cat, comes and keeps me company, which is really nice.

Going to school is also a big part of my life, of course. I like meeting my friends there and enjoy in particular lessons like English, geography and sports. When there are afternoon lessons my friends and me like to go for typical German food and spend some time together.

In my American family I would love to tell stories about my German life at home, so you can get to know differences and cultural specialties. I would also really enjoy cooking some typically German or even Bavarian dishes for you. Of course I am looking forward being part of my American host family in every respect, so maybe we could also play games together or have some excursions, this would be great. I am used to helping in the household, I think it is normal that every family member takes up their share of work.

From when I was young I was always interested in new cultures and countries. Therefore I would love to stay with you in America. I think it is great, how culturally diverse and open-minded the US is. One can get to know people from all around the world. As I am very much interested in sports, I also appreciate the variety of sports clubs and teams an American high school offers. So I am looking forward to trying out new sports. I am very interested in the American way of life and hope to get to know much of it.

Dear host family, I hope I could convince you that I am the right person for you to host. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your interesting country as well as your school system and hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you very much,

Best regards

Lukas
