Dear host family,

My name is Fernando, I am 15 years old. 

Currently I live in a middle sized town with 41.000 inhabitants in the North of Germany. I live with my big brother, my mother and my stepfather. I was born in France, where I lived until I was 9 years old, so I speak good French.

My father lives close by with my little sister, and my stepmother. My father was born in Barcelona (Spain), so I have Spanish roots as well. My mother comes from Germany, so I currently speak three languages. Every year, me and my family spend a few weeks in Spain at my grandparent‘s house during summer.I also travel a lot with my mum. We do a lot of camping, but sometimes we do city trips as well. Last Autumn I went with my mum to London, which I really enjoyed a lot.

My hobbies are kickboxing, drawing and watching movies. I also like to drive around with my friends on our motor scooters (it’s really funny). My brother just returned from an exchange year in Michigan, where we visited him in March 2024. I really liked the US and that’s when I decided to also apply for an exchange myself.

I would like to go to an American highschool, make new friends and find out how an American family is living, to see if it is really like in the movies. And of course I would like to improve my English skills. I am good at speaking and interacting with people and I’m never afraid of talking to people I don’t know. I think that it is because I have grown up with different cultures and I am used to use different languages. When we visited my brother, I also realized that there are a lot of different sports in Highschool, and I would like to try out new sports.

I currently visit a school in my hometown that I will finish next year. Most days school starts at 8am and ends at 12:40pm, but some days I start at 9:40am and end at 2:40pm. After school I usually go home and eat something. Mondays and Wednesdays I have kickboxing practice from 6pm to 7:30pm. The other days I usually meet up with my friends. Sometimes I go to my dad’s place, to spend time with the other part of my family or to babysit my little sister. She is really cute and I love to be with her. We often go rock climbing or do some mountain bike tours (even though there is not really a lot of mountains where we live).

I also like mechanics and repairing my moto scooter. After my exchange school year I would like to attend high school and then study something technical.

I really look forward to meeting you in person, and I am quite sure that we will get along really well.
