Dear future host family,

Before starting this letter, I wanted to thank you that you are thinking about choosing me as your exchange student and that you want me to become a part of your family for 10 months. I know that this is a big responsibility and I appreciate the opportunity that you want to give me so so much! In this letter I want to tell you a little bit about myself and my life so that you get to know me!

So let’s start by telling you who I am. My name is Valerie and right now I am 15 years old. I live in a big city in Germany. I live together with my mom, my dad and my little sister. When describing my family, I can‘t miss out my bunnies Scotty and Floeckchen! They are both 5 years old . I go to a local school in my town and my favorite subjects are English, History and Biology.

I would say about myself that I am a really open and helpful person. I love meeting new people and spending time with them. I am a really loyal and social person who always tries to help others. My hobbies are soccer playing for my team and helping voluntarily in my local church. During summer break, I help by being a teamer for kids activities or by events from our church. In my free time, I spend a lot of time with my friends, going outside or just staying at at friends house and doing a chill evening. Sometimes we do sleepovers together. On hot days in summer, we drive to our local lake and go for a swim there. In winter, our favorite activity is ice skating. We always find something cool to do even when it is just driving downtown and going for a little shopping spree. I love cooking, baking, reading and I really love travelling, especially with my family. Together we love to explore new cultures and see different countries. My family and I do a lot of stuff together. We love driving to forests and explore the nature but also love visiting theme parks because we have the biggest theme park of Germany basically directly in front of our house. Because of all the action we experience, sometimes we just need some resting time, and we spent that by doing movie nights together or by cooking and baking together. I am a big family person and its really important for me to have a good and strong bond with each other like just talking about things and spending time together. I am really close with my family and I wish that it would be like this with my host family to.

Lastly, I want to tell you why I want to do an exchange year and why I decided to do it in a host family. When I was younger my mom always used to tell me about her exchange year and how it shapes her until today! She told me about all the memories that she made and by then I knew that‘s what I want to do when I'm older. I want to learn about the new culture and live the new culture, not just seeing it in a touristic way and of course also give you some of my culture. Im really excited to go to a completely new school and experience a different school system. I‘m excited about all the new people I‘m going to meet and will hopefully find some new friends. I am curious about new hobbies and hobbies that I can‘t experience in Germany. By doing this year, I hope I will grow as a person and I hope I can carry this year positive through my whole life with me!

Thank you so much for reading this letter and I hope I could give you a little inside in my life. Hopefully, I will get to know you soon and I‘m looking forward to having a great time with you!

Sincerely yours,

Valerie
