Hello my name is Hector im 17 years old, and I currently live in Mexico and I am through the 11th grade. I enjoy eating and sleeping, but above all, I love playing the piano, even though I'm not that good yet. I’ve still composed my first song. However, what I like most is building things, anything really. In fact, I’ve built several things, like a 6-legged walker, several bridges, cranes, motion systems, and even a functional mini all-terrain vehicle. No wonder I want to be a mechanical engineer. Besides all of that, I really enjoy playing video games, listening to music, and sparring with the boken (a wooden sword used for training).

These are the things I enjoy and the activities I’m good at. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I really like archery. In addition to everything else, I'm a fan of Japanese food and culture. When it comes to music, I like all kinds: cumbia, pop music from the 70s-90s, the songs from Initial D (I listen to those while driving), ballads, electro pop, and rock. At the moment, my favorite songs are: Mad Desire (Extended Mix), Por Qué Te Vas, and La Nave del Olvido.

Nowadays, my family consists of my parents, my sister, my dog, and my paternal grandparents, since unfortunately, my maternal grandparents passed away several years ago.

I would describe my family as something a bit unusual. Although I think every family is unique in its own way. For example, one thing about my mom is that she gets upset over little things. Well, she doesn’t really get angry, but she does get a little bothered, and it’s actually pretty funny. Other than that, she’s an amazing mom who has always taken care of us and taught us everything she knows so that my sister and I never have to suffer over small things. My dad is a very organized man who always has everything within reach and in its proper place. He always encourages my sister and me to achieve whatever we want, no matter what it is. He is always there to support us. However, we must fulfill our responsibilities and keep our word, because that is what he has taught us.

My grandmother is an extremely sweet person who always cares about us, and she spoils us a lot. She cooks really well, and what I love most about her is when she cooks pozole for the family. My grandfather is also very affectionate, but since he lives far away, we don't see him as often. My family goal is to beat him at chess.

My sister is a curious person. She can be very sweet at times, but she gets irritated easily. She’s also quite hyperactive and only stays still when she’s sleeping. Still, we get along pretty well. She likes to chase her goals, and she’s so stubborn that she always gets what she wants. She is also working on her application to live this experience with PAX.

My goals in life are simple. I want to study abroad in college—either in Germany, Sweden, or Boston—at an engineering university to become a great machine designer. I want to be one of the top engineers for Tesla, NASA, CERN, or SpaceX. Also, in my spare time, I’d like to compose songs on the piano. As my ultimate goal, I want to become a great swordsman, since that is one of my biggest passions.

My goals abroad are to make many friends, reach an academic level that allows me to get into a university in Europe, and also to see what sports are like there, since I’ve heard they have very talented athletes.

There are four things I’m passionate about in life: video games, the piano, engineering, and the katana. I love video games because, in addition to being good at them, they represent a challenge for me to complete. I’m passionate about the piano because playing it is an art; there comes a point where you stop thinking about what you're doing, and the music just flows. Engineering is simply a great hobby that tests my ability to solve problems in a simple and compact way. And finally, the katana — if you’ve never been in a combat situation, you’ll never understand why this passion exists. It’s just something you have to experience.

To my host family: I hope you could let me become part of your family and I hope I am the person you are looking for to have in your house and be part of your community. I would like to know all aspects of your culture and hope that you like to know my culture too. Also I am a pretty organized person that likes to find everything in its designated place and I like to keep my things clean and neat. I expect to have lots of fun with you and to keep in touch even after I come back to Mexico.
