Greetings from Germany,
My name is Rieke. I’m a 15 year old student from Germany. I live in a small town in Germany. I’ve been interested in the United States for quite some time now, and I’m really looking forward to learning more about American culture and history while I’m there. I also hope to see as much of the beautiful nature as possible. But most of all, I’m excited to meet you and learn more about your family life.
I would describe myself as an open and curious person who loves discovering new things and getting to know different cultures.
I think that I’ve got this curiosity mainly through my friend group, since we are a group of people from all around the world. Because of them I’ve already gotten to know lots of cultures and cultural differences, which increased my interest in international experiences.
Besides my interest and curiosity about other cultures, I also have a lot of hobbies that I really enjoy so far. For example, i love to do creative things in my free time, such as drawing and animating. I am currently working on my animated series with a few friends which has been a really fun project. This brings me to another interest of mine: music. Although I’m not much of a singer, music plays a huge role in my life. I love listening to songs in different languages. Besides German and English, I also enjoy music in French, Spanish, and Russian. Lately, I’ve started writing my own lyrics. I also love writing short stories, scripts, and dialogues for theater. Acting is another passion of mine. I mainly act as a part of my drama class and absolutely love standing on stage and being a completely different character. In addition I’m also a big fan of cooking and baking. I may not be the most experienced, but I truly enjoy it. Speaking of things I love, I’m also a big animal lover. From mammal to reptile and anything in between I adore almost every animal. I myself have two adorable pet mice (Gerbils). After all of that I also want to tell you about a completely different side of me. I really enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it’s camping or fishing although I haven’t had the chance to do that in a while. I’m also really interested in both American and world history.
Along with my hobbies, I’d like to give you a little insight into my everyday life. On a typical day, I get up around 7 a.m., get ready and head to school, where I spend most of my day. In the afternoons, I often work on my series or chat with my friends. When the weather is nice, I enjoy to spend some time outdoors.
On weekends, I usually have much more free time, and I take the opportunity to write. Sometimes I experiment with new recipes when cooking or baking, which I really enjoy. However, what I enjoy most is spending time with my family. Especially my mom and I do a lot together - we go shopping, play cards or just talk. We have a very strong relationship. Of course we don’t have the same opinion on everything, but that will never change the fact that we love each other very much and can openly talk about everything. I hope to share the same openness and warmth with you as my host family.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m really looking forward to learn about your family life and becoming an active part of it. I’d love to help out around the house and get involved in your daily routine. Since I enjoy cooking and baking, I’d be excited to try out some German recipes with you. I’m also eager to learn about your traditions and share some of mine as well. I can’t wait to tell you more about Germany and show you that we have more to offer than pretzels and leather shorts!
Finally, I just want to thank you for reading this and perhaps getting to know me a little better. I’m really excited about the opportunity to live in the United States and learn more about your culture. It would mean a lot to me to share this experience with you, and I’m sure we’ll have an amazing time together.
Once again, a big thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I can’t wait to meet you in person!
Best regards,
Rieke
