Dear host family,

I am Augustine, a 16-year-old girl who is very excited to do an exchange year in the United States. I live in a little village.. I live with my 2 brothers. My older brother is at boarding school so we only see each other on weekends, but when we are together we got along pretty well and we don’t fight. With my little brother we get along very well, I see him every day but it’s not really a problem because I don’t fight with him either.
Family is very important for me, we spend a lot of time together and we all get along. At home, we all eat together, we do activities like going for a walk, go to the cinema, playing boardgames... I am also very close to my cousins and my grandparents. We see each other a lot. I am very grateful for the education I got from my parents and the environment in which I grew up.

I always liked going to school, I work to get good points and I have fun with my friends. I particularly enjoy mathematics and science, which is also why I chose science track.

I can be a  shy person but try every day to be less and be completely myself, when you know me really well, I’m not shy anymore and energetic. I am someone who smiles, who is caring, helpful, respectful and kind.

As a sport, I play tennis, it’s been four years now. I’m in a club and I play with my best friend. During the summer, I do tournaments and I also play with my brothers.
On weekends, I go to the scouts. I have very good friends there, including my second best friend.
In my free time, I love reading a book, watching a series or a movie or playing a board game.

I want to do an high school year because, first of all, I love discovering new things and this is an incredible way to discover the USA, but also because it will help me personally to get by and adapt.
I chose this country because I wanted a destination where people speak English to improve it. I am already bilingual (French and Dutch) and I realize that it helps me in many circumstances. More importantly, this expercience will also allow me to discover another continent, with a completely different culture from here. I have always been attracted to the United States and I would like to discover this country from the inside.

I look forward to discovering your way of life, your traditions, and getting to know your country better. By coming to live with you, I hope to share my Belgian culture with you so that you too can discover new things while staying in your country. I believe this experience will be very enriching for all of us.

I am very impatiant to integrate into your community and participate in school and local activities. I would like to join school clubs and sports. I am convinced that this experience will allow me to grow a lot personally.

I sincerely thank you a lot for your hospitality and welcoming me into your home. I am already more than impatient to spend this year with you and I am sure this year will be full of discoveries and unforgettable moments.
