Dear future host family,
I hope you’re doing well. At first, I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to live with you. This is not a matter of course and I am very grateful that you are offering me a place to stay for about 10 months, which is a really long time and also involves a lot of responsibility. The fact that you are taking this on means so much to me.
I don’t know you yet. But I want to tell you a little bit about myself in this letter so we can soon get to know each other better. My name is Magda, I’m currently living in Germany with my siblings, my two cats and my parents. My siblings and I differ in many ways, but then there are things in which we are absolutely similar, like all three of us are playing Tennis. I started it when I was about five years old and still love playing it. I hope I’ll be able to continue it in the US. Another sport my brother and I play (my sister stopped a few years ago) is handball. It started at about three years, and I continued it until now. I love my team and because there are always new trips we do as a team or special activities it never gets boring. Maybe you noticed by now: I love sports and I’d also be very interested in joining a high school sports team and trying out new sports like volleyball or cheerleading.
My friends and I love to meet up at a café and just talk. But of course, that’s not the only thing we do. For example, I went to an Olivia Rodrigo concert a month ago and I will see Taylor Swift at her concert in a few weeks with them (I love her music). My two closest friends and I are in the same class, so we see each other every day and are on every school trip together. I like spending time
with them, because it just flies by when we’re together.
But what’s the reason I want to go to the US? It all started when I was in 7th grade. I saw online a Vlog from a girl who did an exchange year. She seemed so happy, so I started doing some research and from the beginning it was clear: The US it is. I didn’t even think about other countries. I hope to experience the well-known high school spirit, holidays like Thanksgiving and find new friends. At the start it was just a silly little dream, but it became so much more and (hopefully) soon it’ll be reality.
I am very open-minded, like I am excited for everything: Getting to know you, my first day at high school, high school in general, meeting new friends. I don’t have expectations because I think it will all work out in any way. My exchange year will be a big adventure (living in a different country for one year, learning about it, …) that I can’t wait to start.
Now at the end of my letter, I again want to say thank you for the opportunity but also that you took the time to read all of this.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Have a nice day!
Magda
