Dear Future Host Family,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter. I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Anna, I am 16 years old, and I live in Germany with my parents, my younger sister, my older brother and our dog.

I am very close to my family, and we spend a lot of time together.

Currently, I am attending the 10th grade of a grammar school, where my favourite subjects are English, History and Art. I enjoy learning languages, and I have often traveled to other countries in Europe to practice my language skills. In school, I learn German, French, Spanish and English, which I hope to improve when I am in the US.

In my free time, I am very active. I have been playing tennis for a few years and I go to the gym with my friends. On the weekends I normally spend time with my family, sometimes we go on trips, we go golfing or just cook together, which I love, because it is a good way to create memories together. In winter we always go skiing and watch games of our local ice hockey club. In summer, I simply love going to the beach and swimming in the ocean.

I also really enjoy cooking and baking, and I am very interested in the differences between the US and Germany in this regard. I would be delighted if you show me some recipes and I could do the same with you! With my friends I also do a lot of activities like going to the lake, going shopping, doing bike tours, going to the movies or just hanging out.

Additionally, I love to travel, and I have already explored many places in Europe, but I really want to see more of the world. I am a very open person and I like being around other people. I like to try new things, learn about different cultures, people and languages. When I first went to the US, I saw the many opportunities the country offers. I was very impressed, and I am looking forward to discovering more of it. I have always wanted to live and study in a different country, and I saw an exchange year as a good possibility to return and discover more of the US. I really like the different traditions there, the school spirit, and of course, the friendly and welcoming people. I think that living in the US will be an awesome experience for me and that it will have a big influence on my life and personality.

I really hope that after my time with your family, the US will feel like a second home for me.

I’m excited to soon have the chance to learn about your country and the American way of life. I am eager to make new friends, discover new hobbies, and become part of your family. I want to thank you again for taking the time to consider me as a member of your family, and I look forward to getting to know you.
