Dear Host Family,
At first I will say thank you, that you will take some time to read my letter. This means really much for me and I am really grateful, that you maybe will make my biggest dream come true.
Hi, my name is Nives, I am 14 years old and from Germany. With my mother I live near my grandparents’ house so that I can meet them every time. I enjoy that really much. My second home, where my father lives, is a few hours away. He picks me up at least once a month for a weekend. Close by his house is a river, where we often do stand-up-paddling or canoeing. The sea is also located nearby my father’s house, which is perfect for a day trip. I love it to do some small activities like that, which is always better than staying at home.
In my free time I play the piano and have practice once a week, where I play classical pieces and pop songs. I play the piano by myself, but also with others, which is really funny, but also sounds fantastic. Playing the piano has been my hobby since I was ten. I also really like climbing. My first day in a climbing hall was when I was four years old. I don’t go climbing every week but for example often when I am with my father. We both have a climbing license, which doesn’t mean I am a professional climber, but that I enjoy doing it as a hobby. Also, I could imagine going climbing in the great outdoors. In the past I also danced in a guard for carnival, took a diving license and played handball but this I had to quit because we moved. So, I am open for new things and think positive I will find a new hobby in America.
Another very important part of my life is dedicated to my friends. For me it is really important to meet up with them often and spend much time together, for example on sleepovers or after school. I can talk about everything with my friends, especially with my best friend, who goes to school with me. Without her my life wouldn’t be so funny and adventurous. Also it is really practical, that we go to the same school, so we can ask each other questions and we can do projects like a presentation together. For me school is really important, so I invest a lot of time in school and I am really ambitious.
I can’t say exactly how I became my dream to do an exchange year in America. I would say the dream was always there. I am really interested into new ways of living, so I thought it would be a big possibility to make an exchange year. Also my favorite country is America, where I have not been yet. Even if I have not been there, I am attracted by the nature, culture and language. As I have already said, I am really looking forward to find a new sport or rather a new hobby in my exchange year and especially new friends for life. I am glad to make experiences, that I will never forget. I am also so happy about the possibility to experience the typical American school day and to learn the language even better.
For sure it will be one of my biggest adventures I will ever have, but the best thing about is it, that I can get a new member of a new family, with whom I can experience this adventure.
Once again, thank you really much for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to share many wonderful experiences with you and hope we will see us soon!
Best regards
Nives
