Hello!
My name is Koldo, and I’m really excited about the opportunity to spend a year in the United States of America. I would like to share a little bit about myself, my family, and my interests so that you can get to know me better.
I live in a small town in the Basque Country, Spain. Even though we are part of Spain, we consider ourselves Basque, as we have our own culture and language. I live with my mother, who is a primary school teacher, and my father, who works at a bank. I also have an older sister who is currently studying in her last year of high school and also works in a bar on the weekends. As a family, we enjoy spending time together, whether it’s during meals, trips, or holidays. I’m also very close to my two grandmothers, and I really enjoy spending time with them, especially having lunch at their house because their cooking is amazing! I will for sure miss those moments while I’m abroad, but I will have the chance to experience more.
I go to school on weekdays from 08:00 to 14:00. While school isn’t my favorite part of the day, I understand how important it is, and I try to work hard and do my best. Apart from school, I attend English classes at an academy three hours a week. I think these classes are crucial in order to improve my language skills, especially now since I’ll be spending a year abroad. I believe that being able to communicate and understand others is very important.
I would describe myself as a social, fun, and laid-back person. I love meeting new people, making friends, and spending time with those around me. However, I also value quiet moments to reflect or relax. I’m not much of a party person, but I enjoy meaningful conversations and connecting with others.
In my free time, I like hanging out with my friends, usually on weekends. Music is a big part of my life. I listen to it almost all the time! My favorite artist is Eladio Carrión, but I also enjoy English-speaking musicians like Drake, Frank Ocean, or Kendrick Lamar. Music inspires, motivates and entertains me. I also like watching series, movies, YouTube videos, or sports events, especially handball and soccer matches.
Sports are very important for me too, particularly handball. It’s more than just a hobby, it’s an essential part of my life. I train three times a week with my team, and on weekends, we play matches against other teams. I also go to the gym regularly to stay in good shape and improve my performance. Being part of a team has taught me important values like discipline, teamwork and perseverance. Apart from handball, I enjoy running and hiking in the mountains. During my stay in the United States, I’d like to try a different sport, and I think American football could be a great option!
While in the United States, I hope to improve my English skills, learn more about American culture, and share my own Basque culture with my host family, classmates, and new friends. I’m also looking forward to trying new activities and exploring hobbies that are popular in the United States. Of course, I’d love to visit famous landmarks and landscapes. One of my dreams is to visit New York, and I feel so lucky to have the chance to go there for a few days before arriving at your house.
As I write this, I don’t yet know who I’ll be staying with and where. But I want to sincerely thank you for welcoming me into your home. I’m truly looking forward to this incredible experience and becoming part of your family!
See you soon!
Koldo.
