Dear future host family,

First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to make my dream come true. I know that none of this can be taken for granted and I’m so grateful for it, also for being able to get to know new cultures, traditions and a second family.

So let’s start with me, my name is Amanda and I’m fifteen years old. I will already be sixteen when I arrive in the USA. I live here in Germany with my parents
and my little sister. Two little rabbits named Bella and Charlie complete our family. In my freetime I often spend time with my best friend Julia.
We have always a lot of fun and usually watch series together, go for a walk or shopping. But sometimes it’s enough to just talk and laugh until our stomach begin to hurt.

Furthermore, I spend a lot of time on the track. Running, especially sprinting, let me switch of my thoughts completely for a moment. Also track and field made me stronger in so many ways and made me more self-confident, too. I have made great friends through my sport and my coaches are the best coaches I could wish for. All in all, I have a wonderful team with whom I go to competitions or on trips almost every weekend. My other hobbies include reading, listening to music, being creative and baking. Unlike others, I also love going to school. I think it’s great to have a place where I can see my friends often and also learn new things at the same time.

But now perhaps tot he most important question, why do I want to do this exchange? For as long as I can remember, I have had the dream of doing an exchange. I used to watch Youtube videos about exchange students who talked about their experiences and it was immediately clear to me... I want to become an exchange student, too! I also think a big reason is that I have never been afraid of travelling and getting to know new cultures, traditions etc. I’ve always wanted to discover different countrys and get to know people around the world. I’ve also had a love for the USA for a very long time which probably comes from the stories my parents told me about their vacation a few years ago. Luckily, I was able to fly to America for the first time with my family this year and was really fascinated. Florida was beautiful and life felt very different there in comparison to Germany.

I am really excited to get to know the US and learn more about the way of living in America as well as to improve my English skills. I’m particularly interested in experiencing American
holidays and the typical high school life. However, I’m very much looking forward to living a year abroad and to have an unforgettable time with you in my new home.
Best wishes from Germany,

Your Amanda
