Dear future host family, dear future school,

Before telling you about me, I want to thank you all for considering me as a foreign student and for taking your time to read my Student letter.

My name is Lara-Marie, I am 15 years old and live in Germany. I would consider myself as helpful, since I am always willing to lend a hand without anyone asking for it. Additionally, I am a curious person, who likes to learn new things, try new things and is open to everything, being part of a family with three siblings has made me adaptable, I can adjust to new and different things easily and am flexible with everything.

Now, I want to give you information about my family. My mother, father, my two elder brothers and my older sister all live in a house together in a small town with approximately 40000 inhabitants. My mother works for a company with clinical studies, she works part time from home and she prepares lunch for us and does the rest of the housekeeping. My father usually works from home for a tech company, however when he doesn’t he is away for a few days or away for one day at his customer. The older one of my two brothers is working at an IT company, he helps me when I have problems with my electronic devices or otherwise. The other brother is studying in another town, since he is only home during the weekends we do not see each other as often as we used to, however he has taught me a lot and still does. My sister is going to the eleventh grade at a different school than me, she and I both go horseback riding and like to bake together. I have an aunt, uncle and three cousins as well, however since they live in another city we cannot see each other often, but we are still very close and have a great relationship. Furthermore, I have a great aunt, who visits us once a week and helps with the chores. She has been there for me pretty much my whole life, therefore we are really close. I have two grandfathers as well, one visits us once a month, the other one lives in another town, so we do not see him as much as the other one. However my grandfathers, great aunt, siblings and parents spend one week per year together as a holiday. My parents, siblings and I spend a lot of time together, we hang around and trust each other a lot.

In my free time, I am going to a small barn with four horses, I go there three times a week and take care of two horses and ride them as well if I can. Moreover, I like to spend time with my family, by just hanging around or doing activities together. Additionally, I like to bake with my siblings as well, I think it is a great bonding time and we talk to each other. I like to do stuff with my friends as well, we usually meet once a week at my house and do homework and learn for school, when we are done with that we like to do fun stuff, like going for a walk, making food or even filming our own short movies.

In my life I want to get a job, where I help others and make the world a better place, I also want others to feel safe. Additionally, I want to travel a lot and get to know new cultures, countries and different ways of living. I want to build a family as well and hopefully give my children the opportunity to do an exchange year as well. Furthermore, I would like to adopt an animal from a shelter to give them a happy life and give them the life they deserve. Additionally, I want to continue volunteering at a church, to give children the opportunity to learn about God. I also want to continue volunteering at the EMS to help others and to get others to help too.

During my stay I want to grow as an individual, by trying new things and being open to try them. I want to  immerse myself into a different culture as well, I have been to the U.S. four times and have always been interested in the culture and the people. Additionally, I want to get to know a different way of life in a different family with other dynamics, get used to it and immerse myself in the family. I also want to get to know new people and create meaningful connections with them, which hopefully last a long time. Moreover, I want to improve my English skills.

I am passionate about baking, I really like to bake and share my cakes or other stuff with other people to make them happy. Additionally, I am passionate about the stars, I like to watch the stars alone, with friends or with my family, for me it is really interesting and fascinating that stars can even exist. Moreover, I am interested in medicine, the human body fascinates me and I would like to help others by doing everything I can.
