Dear host family,
my name is Marie and I am 15 years old.
Currently, I am in 10th grade and go to school in a small town in which my
mom lives as well.
In the small town are a few supermarkets, a movie theatre and some other shops and it has about 15 000
habitants. There also is an ice rink which I like to visit in winter and an outdoor swimming pool during
summertime.
My mom loves riding her bicycle in the nature, reading books, especially about philosophy, and
spending time with me and my sister.
Because my parents are divorced I have another home at my dad’s.
My dad lives in an even smaller village and it´s only a ten minute
car-drive away from my mom’s place. The village only has about 1 700 habitants and there isn’t even
a supermarket, but it has a small store with local fruits and vegetables aswell as a beautiful forest.
My dad likes spending time in the forest and going hunting and he enjoys travelling.
I also have a sister. She graduated this year and is now
travelling through Europe with friends of hers. Besides travelling she also likes to going to the gym
and going out with friends.
Lastly we have our beautiful but elderly dog Cera who is fourteen years old and lives at my dad’s. I
love to spend time with her and have a good connection to dogs since we got her when I was only two
years old.
In my free-time I love playing soccer and I'm now play in the highest girl league in Germany.
I have practice twice a week, plus game day on the weekends.
I started playing soccer at the age of nine and Besides that I also enjoy horseback riding which I do once a week. I started doing that about two
years ago after I paused it for a few.
Those are my hobbies but I also tutor younger students and work at the local ice-cream shop, that is
owned by my uncle, to earn some money.
As you surely can imagine, my weeks are pretty full but I also enjoy spending time with my huge
family that lives nearby, including my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Furthermore, we regularly go to church.
Besides all of that, I sometimes travel to a big city with my friends to do some sightseeing and
shopping as it is only about 20 miles away from my home.
At the moment, I don’t know what I want to do after my graduation. However, I do know that I want
to include languages in my future career since I am very interested and good at learning them. Also, I
think that travelling and experiencing different lifestyles can help a lot with figuring out my future.
Two years ago I had the chance to travel to the US to meet my mom’s former host mom and to attend
my sister’s graduation who had spent a year abroad before.
Therefore, I would say, I have a realistic perspective on what it means to spend one year in the US.
I am looking forward to this opportunity of an exchange year because I would love to experience a
new culture and get to know a daily life in a different school system. I also see this experience as a
possibility to meet new people with whom I might stay in touch and to gain further family members on the other side of the world.

I would be very thankful if you gave me the opportunity to experience this special time.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Yours,

Marie
