Dear host family,

I’m Sarah, I am 15 years old and from the North of Germany.
My family and I live in a small village with 16.303 inhabitants. We live in a beautiful house near a big forest and a lake. Fall is particularly beautiful as all the leaves turn orange and it’s just magical to go on a walk in the forest. In my family there are my parents and my brother.

My Mother Tanja is Head of Accounting, she loves to do activities with her friends like going on a concert or a little shopping trip. Furthermore, she is very interested in culture, which she tries to pass on to my brother and me.
My Father is a Technical Engineer. My Brother will join the Marines in February. Both share their passion for building wooden model airplanes and motorsports.
I have a really close relationship with my grandparents I love to visit them.
I’m very close to my family and we try to spend a lot of time together. For instance, in our everyday family life we love to go to museums or go on trips to the North Sea and spend the day at the beach. On vacation my brother and I very much enjoy diving.

I attend 10th grade. On school days, I normally get up at 5:30 am and start getting ready for school. At 6:40 am I ride my bicycle to the train station to take the train at 6:55 am. First period starts at 7:50 am and lasts until 2 pm. Most of the time I get home by 3 pm, then I do my homework and cook for my family so when they get back from work they can eat. At that point, I try to rest for a while before getting ready for my hobbies. My favorite school subjects are sports and biology.
When I’m in school I love to talk with my friends about sports or the newest trends.

In my free time I love to do sports, especially handball and swimming. These hobbies take up a lot of my time, but I try to spend as much time as possible with my friends. I’m also very interested in creative activities like painting or playing an instrument, particularly the guitar. Being from the north of Germany, I love to go to the beach and can’t really stay away from any body of water. Most of the time you can find me in my sports club or going on a walk with some friends while chatting. My favourite food is sushi and pizza. But I can’t eat it often because I have to eat healthy.

It has been a dream of mine for quite some time now to go abroad as I’m very interested in different cultures and would like to get acquainted with them first hand. I’m open minded and eager to see and experience new things. I look forward to getting to know new people and making international friends. I love the English language and enjoy speaking it. As mentioned before, family gives me great comfort which influenced my decision to live with an exchange family. I hope to get a better insight into local customs and other cultural aspects.

When I finish school I want to take some time off from academic life and do a year of Work and Travel in Australia or Africa. After that, I want to study Marine Biology in Canada and make a name for myself in that field. Although I love adventures, at some point I would like to settle down to start a family.
