Dear Future Host Family and School,
I hope this letter finds you well and that you are in good health and spirits. My name is Oliwia (but my friends and family call me Oliwka), and I am filled with excitement and happiness at the thought of becoming part of your family and experiencing life in a new country. I am thrilled to share my story with you and let you know more about who I am, what I love, and the goals I hope to achieve while I stay with you.
A Bit About Me
I am a optimistic, curious, and energetic individual who always seeks to grow and improve in all aspects of life. I was raised in an environment that encouraged me to be confident, explore my interests, and embrace the world with an open mind. Despite this, I haven’t always been like that. When I was little, I was shy and scared to say what is really on my mind. Through years I learned to believe in myself and my opinions more. That made me the person that I am today. From a young age, I have been fascinated by different cultures, languages, and ways of life, and this has driven me to opportunities to learn and discover more about the world. I believe that every experience is an opportunity for growth, and I approach life with optimism, always looking for the lessons hidden within challenges and obstacles.
My friends and family often describe me as warm, respectful, patient, and easy to connect with others. I truly value human connections and enjoy meeting people from different walks of life. One of the things I appreciate the most is my ability to listen and understand others. I believe that each person has a unique story to share, and I love hearing about people's experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. This curiosity about others has not only helped me build strong relationships but has also allowed me to appreciate the richness of diversity in the world around me.
I enjoy reading books, especially fictional ones. They help me separate myself from the world around me and dive straight into exciting, unusual and thrilling stories. Reading has always been a way for me to place myself in different worlds and learn more about the human experience. In addition to books, I also enjoy watching movies and TV series of all kinds. I feel like the presentation of characters and worlds they live in is really important and often helps me understand different aspects of the world.
My Family
My family is the foundation of who I am, and I am incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by people who love and support me. I come from a family that values open communication, mutual respect, and togetherness. We make it a priority to spend quality time together, whether it’s during family travels, weekend outings, or just sitting down for a chat. The bond we share is incredibly special, and I consider myself lucky to have such a close and supportive family.
My parents have been my role models and greatest sources of guidance throughout my life. My father is a hardworking and dedicated individual who has always been passionate about his career and the work he does. He has instilled in me the importance of family, responsibility, and the value of hard work. His approach to life is grounded in practicality, and he always emphasizes the significance of being honest, fair, and dependable. Despite his busy professional life, he has always made time for our family, and his commitment to us has shown me what it means to prioritize the things that matter most. He is also a wonderful cook and takes great pleasure in preparing meals that bring the family together. The kitchen has always been the heart of our home, and many of my dearest memories are tied to the times we spent cooking, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company. My mother is equally influential in my life. She is a nurturing and caring person who has always been there to support me, not only emotionally but also in practical ways. Whether it’s helping me with my school projects, offering advice during tough times, or simply listening when I need to talk, my mother’s presence in my life has been invaluable. Her compassion, patience, and understanding are qualities that I admire and try to embody in my own interactions with others. She’s also very creative and enjoys all kinds of art. She spends her free time painting, crocheting, sewing or making other art projects. When I was little we used to draw or do clay sculptures together, which are more of my greatest memories.
I have one sibling, a sister, and our relationship is something I hold dear. Growing up together, we have experienced many of life’s highs and lows, and this has strengthened our bond. We may have our differences at times, but we always manage to work through challenges together, learning and growing along the way. Whether it’s sharing a common interest or supporting each other through difficult moments, my sibling and I have a deep mutual respect for one another. Our relationship is built on trust, understanding, and a shared sense of humour, which makes our time together enjoyable and fulfilling.
In addition to my immediate family, I have a close relationship with my grandparents, who have played an integral role in shaping who I am today. My grandparents are a source of wisdom, love, and comfort. They have lived through many historical events and personal experiences, and their stories and advice have helped guide me throughout my life. My grandparents’ love and affection have given me a sense of stability and grounding, and I am grateful for their continued presence in my life.
I also consider our pets as a part of family. Currently we have three cats and a dog. Two of the cats are boys and brothers while the third one is a girl. Fun fact about all of them is that they have names connected to few of the highest mountains in the world. The girl’s name is Nanga, taken from the Nanga Parbat - 8,126 m high mountain in Asia. Brothers are called Everest (taken from Mount Everest) and Lhotse, which is a mountain located very near to Mount Everest. Ours’s dog name is Taco, and he has been with us for a year and a half now. He is very energetic, enjoys long walks and annoying the cats. Taking into account my deep love and connection with animals I’d be more then delighted, if my host family had any kind of pets.
My Hobbies and Interests
I am a person who enjoys a variety of hobbies and activities, and cannot say that one of them is my favourite or that I’m excellent in it. I’d rather try out many new things then focus especially on one. I believe that pursuing different interests is a great way to explore new aspects of yourself and the world around you.
One of my passions is scrapbooking, which I only started a few months ago but really enjoy it. I feel like it’s a great way to store my memories in fun and pleasurable to look at way. I like to flip the pages and get to experience my travels, concerts that I’ve attended, or friends gatherings again. This activity allows me to express my creativity, challenge myself, and connect with my sister, as she enjoys it as well. I find great satisfaction in doing it and look forward to continuing to document my life and new, exciting things that I’ll experience during my time abroad.
In addition to scrapbooking and reading that I wrote about earlier, I also enjoy cooking. When I’m travelling with my family we often book cooking courses where we learn to cook traditional dishes of country we’re visiting. For example, when we were in Thailand, we learned how to make pad thai and mango sticky rice. Because of that we can now cook this cuisine at home and remember good moments we experienced in Thailand.
One of the other things I enjoy is going on walks with my dog and music. It helps me stay active in everyday life and is a way to separate myself from surroundings, while I need it the most.
Whether I’m learning new recipes, reading about unique worlds and characters, being creative, or exploring new hobbies, I believe that it is essential to find balance in life. I make it a point to make my interests important, but I also understand the value of rest and relaxation. Taking some time for myself allows me to approach challenges with a clear mind and positive attitude. In my experience, having a healthy balance between work, hobbies, and relaxation is key to personal well-being and growth.
My Goals in Life
Looking forward to the future, I have several ambitious goals that I am working toward. One of my main goals is to travel even more of the world. This goal has been something I have been passionate about for years, and I am determined to make it a reality. As I said earlier. I believe that with hard work, dedication, and organization, anything is possible, and I am excited to take the necessary steps to accomplish this dream.
Beyond my professional goals, I am also focused on personal growth. I want to become a more confident, independent, and open person. I believe that life is about continuous learning, and I want to expand my knowledge and skills in various areas. Traveling and studying abroad is a huge part of this journey, as it allows me to step outside of my comfort zone, embrace new challenges, and learn from different perspectives.
My Goals During My Stay Abroad
During my time abroad, I have several specific goals that I hope to achieve. On an academic level, I want to throw myself into the local culture and language, especially to improve my English. I am committed to practicing every day and using every opportunity to learn from native speakers. I believe that being in a language environment is the fastest way to become fluent, and I am excited about the chance to experience the language first hand.
On a personal level, I want to build meaningful relationships with people from different backgrounds and cultures. I am looking forward to getting to know my host family, schoolmates, and other members of the community, and I want to share my own experiences and culture as well. I believe that the exchange of ideas, stories, and traditions is one of the most valuable aspects of living abroad, and I am excited to form lasting friendships with people who will help me grow and learn.
I also want to fully highlight the cultural experiences and traditions of my host country. I am excited to explore new places, try new foods, and learn about the history of the place I’ll be living in. Whether it’s participating in local festivals, visiting the neighbourhood, or exploring the natural beauty of the area, I can’t wait to make the most of my time abroad and learn as much as possible about my new surroundings.
My Passion
As I mentioned earlier, one of my greatest passions is travelling. This passion has always been an integral part of who I am, and it continues to inspire me every day. It has taught me the importance of dedication, organisation, and open mindedness, and I am excited to continue exploring this passion while I am abroad. I hope to share my love for different cultures with my host family and others in my community, and I am happy to learn from others who share similar interests.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I want to express how truly excited I am at the chance of becoming a part of your family and community. I believe that my enthusiasm, curiosity, and commitment to growth will make me a valuable addition to your family, and I am more than excited to experience all that your culture has to offer. I look forward to the opportunity to learn from you, share my own experiences, and create lasting memories together.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I am excited about the possibility of meeting you and going on this incredible journey together.
Warmest regards,
Oliwka
