Dear Host Family,
Hi! I’m so excited to meet you and join your family. I’d like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my life.
My family has four people. My mother, father, younger sister, and our dog, Cooky. Cooky is a toy poodle, and she brings so much happiness to our home. She’s playful, lovely and likes to going on walks with us. Our family often spends time together on weekends. Fo r examples, it’s cooking, watching movies, or exploring local parks.
In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar, listening to music, and watching movies. Music is a big part of my life, and I often listen to Taylor Swift, One Direction, Charlie Puth and some Japanese singer. Playing the guitar helps me relax and express myself creatively. I also love spending time outdoors. My hometown has beautiful beaches, so I often go stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, or snorkeling. Being by the ocean always able me to relax and become to love my hometown.
I started playing the guitar in junior high school. I practiced songs I liked and even performed in a band during our school’s performance day in my third year. We played “Dragon Night,” and seeing the audience wave their smartphone lights for us was an amazing moment. It inspired me to keep playing the guitar ever since. I’m hoping to continue playing music during my stay and would love to share Japanese songs with you or learn some American ones!
During my one-year exchange program, I want to study at an American high school with students from all over the world and experience what life is like there. I love learning about different cultures, and I hope to share a lot about my hometown and Japanese traditions with others. I also want to learn more about religion and the differences between American and Japanese lifestyles. For example, I’m curious about how holidays like Thanksgiving or Independence Day are celebrated and what kinds of family traditions are important in your home.
I’ve always loved making things. For me, it became to got into programming. My father is a system engineer, so I grew up making projects with Scratch when I was little. I remember creating small games and animations, which sparked my curiosity about technology. That’s one reason I’ve been able to stick with programming even though I usually lose interest in things quickly. I hope to continue exploring programming while I’m in the U.S. and maybe learn about how American students approach technology and problem-solving.
There are three main things I want to do in America!
First, I want to make lots of friends and enjoy everyday life in America. I’m excited to meet people from different backgrounds, learn about their values, and share my own culture with them.
Second, I want to think about my future. I’d like to see how studying to become a system engineer or getting into college is different in America. I hope this helps me broaden my perspective and find new possibilities.
Third, I want to spend a life-changing year. I hope to experience things I can’t do in Japan, meet people I wouldn’t normally get to meet, and change the way I see the world.
When I visited America for a short-term program last summer, I met so many kind people and visited lots of famous places. I even went to UC Berkeley and was amazed by how different it was from Japanese universities. That experience really inspired me, and I hope to have another meaningful year during this exchange program.
I’ve been to America twice before, but I believe there are still so many places I haven’t visited and so many things I haven’t experienced yet. That’s why I want to explore various places and challenge myself to try new things during my stay.
At my school in Japan, we don’t have events like parties, and I’ve heard that American 12th graders get to attend prom. Since I’ve never experienced anything like that, I’m really looking forward to it. I’d love to join events like parties and see what they’re like.
I’m also looking forward to spending time with you as a family. Whether it’s cooking meals together, celebrating special occasions, or simply talking about our day, I hope we can create many wonderful memories. If there’s anything I can do to help around the house or in daily life, please let me know—I’d be happy to contribute.
