Dear host family,

I’m called Clémence and I’m 17 years old. I come from Belgium, of course I like fries, chocolate, waffles... I am a very friendly person who loves discovering a lot of things, so I’m very curious. I speak a lot, I’m talkative so I’m sure that the language and communication will not be a problem between us.

I have a big brother. I have a good relationship with him. We are always there for each other in times of need. My mother’s job is Family Helper. My mother likes me, she also speaks a lot. My father is an administrative agent. I have a lot of in common with my father, we like the same activities and we have the same “American Dream”. I’m so proud of my family, I admire them. My grandparents are also people who inspire me. I’ve become who I am thanks to my family. I’ve had a little dog since 2014, its name is Caline, it’s a Cavalier King Charles. In my family, we eat together every day at mealtimes, everyone must help at home. My brother and I must do different tasks to help my parents. My family and I sometimes do different activities together. My parents are always there for me. They advise me a lot and support me in my decisions.

My life at school is very dynamic, I have a lot of homework, tests and exams. I work hard to pass so I’m meticulous in my work. I like to do things well. At school I like to go towards other people and talk to them. I’m not afraid of taking part in discussions in class. I had the chance to be a CEO in a small business for my economics classes for 2 years. With that experience I learnt a lot about myself and others. I was able to work on my way of managing complicated situations. My options at school are Economics and Mathematics 6 periods. School takes up a lot of space in my schedule, but I always find time to do activities with my friends or to work for my student job or to do my hobbies or to spend time with my family. For my student job I work in a restaurant in my region.

I’ve been playing the piano in an academy for 8 years. It has been my passion since I was a child because my grandfather has a piano in his home. So every time when I went there, my grandfather taught me a lot of little nursery rhymes. I grew up with the piano. It was obvious to play the piano for me. I also like to cook because my grandmother is a very good cook. So I’ve learnt a lot with her. I like to read books, I can discover a lot during my reading. At every family celebration, I like to take care of my little cousins. I’m very considerate with the others.

I have had the opportunity to do different activities like classical dance, badminton, theater, orchestra, singing, girl scouts... and therefore I was able to learn a lot of things.
I chose this host country because I want to discover new cultures and for me the USA have a multitude of them. The USA have a lot of beautiful landscapes. I would like to improve my English for my future career.

The USA have also been a dream of mine since I was a little girl because my father is as passionate as I. This country represents a real opportunity for me. I chose this program because I don't only want to see the American life, I want to live it. With this program I can participate in the life of other people. I have the opportunity to bring a lot of things to my host family and to other people. They will bring me a lot too. For me this program is the best to discover the others. It's the closest program to real life. I think I can bring a lot of new things to my host family, my new school, and my new country because I can bring my culture, my personality in the life, the specialties of my country...

Living this experience of going to the USA is a big dream for me. Thank you so much to give me the opportunity to realize my dream and thank you for your hospitality towards me.
