Dear future host family,

 My name is Kaja. I am an only child and I‘m living in a big city in Germany with my parents.

My dad is from Germany and my mom is from Poland so I grew up bilingual, speaking Polish with her and German with my dad. 
I think that this might be the reason why I am good at learning languages. It’s easy for me and I love doing it.

My passion has always been writing, which is why I want to become a journalist one day.  
For now, my goal is to successfully complete secondary school. After that, I would love to travel for another year and then study journalism at a university.

 My moms side of the family lives in Poland, which is why I don’t see them as often. My grandparents still live near the city my mom was born in and we try to visit them once a year. I love the city mom lived in during her childhood as much as the one I live in, it’s like my second home.

My grandpa on my dads side lives close to our city, about an hour away. I’m not that close to him but we sometimes visit him and his wife. My grandma passed away when I was a baby.

My mom came to Germany as an Au Pair and stayed here when she met my dad. They got married a year before I was born.

I consider myself an empathic and caring person. I always try to be there for the people around me, whether it’s by listening, offering help or simply being there for them. 
I also love sharing. As an example, I share my food with my friends at school if they forgot to bring theirs.

 I mostly am in school until 2:30 pm. After that, I have some free time to enjoy my hobbies. I play the piano on Wednesdays and I play tennis with two of my friends on Thursdays. I am also trying to do horseback riding again. I enjoy reading a lot. My favourite genre is fantasy but I also like mystery books. My favourite book is „the inheritance games“ by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I also like baking cakes and cookies. Right now, I‘m also trying to learn some cooking skills from my mom because she prepares amazing food.

 I am very greatful to be able to come to the US for a year. I really hope to have an amazing time and meet new people. I would also like to get more confident and to get out of my comfort zone more. My main goal for this exchange year is to learn about the American culture and to make unforgettable memories.
