Dear my host family

Hello! My name is Sonachi. Thank you for letting me in your family for a year. I’m glad that I can spend my precious time with you guys. I hope this year to be a great year for both of us. Let have fun!!

First, I would like to introduce my self. I’m 16 years old and living in an island, Okinawa prefecture. You can imagine that Okinawa is similar to Hawaii. We have beautiful ocean and sky. I like to sing especially in a karaoke box. I also like to spend my time with my friends and I think that’s because of me not having any siblings. I’m looking forward to have a good time with you.

Second, I would like to explain why I’d like to visit America to study. I have been learning English for a long time since a young age but because I learnt it at Okinawa and didn’t went to any other countries, I can’t communicate fluently. I don’t know a lot of the vocabularies and I can’t talk with girls who speaks English casually. By taking lessons in English, I want to improve my vocabulary skills as well as communicating freely by using English in my daily life.

Before I move on, let me explain my favorites. In the beginning, I love my island, Okinawa. I like that the nature is perfect and there are a lot of people that is friendly especially in the small islands near to the main island of Okinawa. I like the traditions because I can know how the history moved on in the past. I can introduce many different cultures of Okinawa so I hope that I can also know about yours. My favorite food is pizza and I hate papaya. I don’t really like mushrooms or fruits too. I can definitely say that my likes and dislikes of foods are difficult but in this experience, I would like to try different foods.

Let’s move on to the topic that things that I want to do when become a host student. The biggest thing that I want to do is to know the difference of our life between America and Okinawa. I don’t really know about America yet so I can’t say anything specifically but I want to surprise at a lot of things and bring back many informations for my mom. The only image that I have of American teenagers is “Party” so I want to know if they really do it and if they really do so, I want to know hows the atmosphere different with us. I also want to experience other families life. I have had any siblings in my life and I only know a single child life with two busy parents. I want to know how different does other families spend their time and make good memories with them.

Next, I would like to tell you what I can do when I when to America as a host student at your house. I know that I can help house works a lot. I have a role that I need to do all of my family’s laundry everyday in my house. So I’m good at doing laundries and also I can continue doing it everyday. I also need to wash my lunch boxes so I’m used to wash everyday dishes too. I hope you would ask me to do it. On the other hand, I can introduce many Japanese cultures. I know that you can get normal informations of Japanese cultures but I can show and tell you informations that we only know about our “daily” lives. You can know how students especially teenagers spend their time, how adults work at their office, how Japanese education system works and so on. I can teach you things that you can’t by just research on an internet. As me introducing it, I would like to listen to your story and experience things that I can do in a year. We can exchange stories, cultures, and even languages. Let’s make our community more effective for us.

I wrote you this much of informations but finally, the most biggest thing that I want to accomplish with you is to have an exciting memory. I want to build a good relationship with you even I come back to Okinawa. I went to South Korea a year ago and stayed at my host family’s house for just two weeks but even now, we take contacts each other. Like the experience of South Korea, I also want to spend a precious time and be  the best host friend ever in your life. I want to introduce my favorites but also I want to hear yours too. I’m so excited to meet you in the future and know your stories.

Sincerely yours, Sonachi
