Dear Host Family,
My name is Carlota, and I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to spend a year with your family and experience life in a completely new environment. I want to take this chance to tell you a little about myself, my family and the more important things to me. I hope this letter helps you to understand who I am. I am looking forward to the possibility of becoming a part of your family, and I would love to learn as much as possible from this unique experience.
I am 15 years old. My parents always tell me that the day I was born it was snowing a lot. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I like winter much more than people usually do.
I live in the center of Spain, in a lovely city that is full of history and culture. Spain is known for its beautiful landscapes, a lot of dynamic cities, delicious food, and warm weather.
I live with my parents, and my younger brother. He and I have a great relationship, and we enjoy spending time together whenever we can. Despite the age difference, we have many shared interests, and I often help him with his homework or teach him new things. I feel very lucky to have such a close relationship with my brother, as I know not everyone has that opportunity.
My whole family is very important to me, and I am grateful to have them nearby. To live in the same neighborhood that them, give me the possibility to see them often, whether it’s for family meetings or just casual visits. My mother’s side of the family is bigger than my father’s, although I only have three cousins on that side. My father has two brothers, by his side I have five cousins, so we are seven and I am the oldest, which comes with its own responsibilities and privileges. I really enjoy spending time with my cousins, whether we are playing games, talking about our lives, or simply having good time out together. It is easy for us spending time together and have fun, whether we’re playing sports, hanging out, or just talking about life. So being close to my extended family is a special part of my life that I appreciate profoundly, and I feel very fortunate to have such a loving support network around me.
Some of my hobbies include going out with my friends, walking around the city center, traveling, and listening to music. I also enjoy spending time with my cousins.
One of my favorite pastimes is going out with my friends. We often visit the center of the city, where there is a lot to see and do. Whether my friends and I are shopping, watching movies, going for walks, or simply having snacks on a terrace while we talk and laugh. I love spending time with them, and I believe that these moments are very enriching for my life. Additionally, I really enjoy traveling. I think exploring new places and experiencing different cultures is one of the most rewarding things a person can do. Whenever I travel with my family, which we try to do at least once a year, there are always anecdotes that we will remember forever and laugh about. For instance, last year we went to Berlin in Germany and we had a great time.
I am currently attending a school just ten minutes from my home by car. I go on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and I have been at this same school since I was about two years old, and it is where I plan to finish my studies until university. This has allowed me to form friendships that have lasted for many years, and I am still very close with several of my classmates. I am very dedicated to my studies, and I always try to do my best in everything I do. Although school can sometimes be challenging, I enjoy the learning process and appreciate the opportunity to gain knowledge. My school is like a second family to me, and I truly value the relationships I have built there all these years. It has also been a place where I learned a lot about teamwork and leadership, as I actively participate in various school activities. Additionally, I participate in extracurricular activities like English classes and paddle or horse riding.
My favorite place in the world is a house that my grandparents have in a small village, where I spend the entire month of August with them and my friends. During the summer, the highlight of our days is spending time by the pool. We swim, sunbathe, and enjoy each other's company, laughing and relaxing in the warmth of the sun. The afternoons are often filled with excursions through the surrounding mountains because this village is near a mountain range.
In addition to school, I am also passionate about sports. I have always been an active person, and sports have been a huge part of my life. My two favorite sports are skiing and horse riding. I’ve been skiing since I was a young child, and every winter, I look forward to spending time in the mountains and enjoying the slopes. Horseback riding is another activity that I absolutely love. I find it to be both relaxing and exciting, and it allows me to connect with nature in a way that few other activities can do. These two sports are truly my passion, and I try to practice them as much as possible whenever I have free time. I feel that these activities teach me valuable life skills, such as patience, discipline, and perseverance.
I also enjoy surfing, although I’m still learning. I started taking surfing lessons a couple of years ago, and while I’m not yet a professional, I have a lot of fun trying to ride the waves. I love the sense of freedom and adventure that comes with being on the water.
Additionally, during school breaks, my friends and I play volleyball together. We often play during lunch breaks or after school, and it’s a great way for us to bond and get some exercise. I find that playing sports is an excellent way to stay active, healthy, and happy, and also I really enjoy the sense of teamwork and camaraderie that comes with it. These moments of physical activity are a great way for me to unwind and recharge after a busy day at school.
My father is a great sports enthusiast and has always enjoyed any activity that allows him to stay active and challenge himself. Recently, we have been learning to play golf together. Although at first I thought it was a complicated sport, with his patience and enthusiasm, I’ve started to enjoy it more and more. I like that he always looks for ways to teach me, offering advice and showing me how to improve. In addition, he has tried to teach us how to sail his boat. For me, this experience has been exciting and different from anything I had done before. The feeling of being on the water and learning to handle the boat under his guidance has given me a new perspective on water sports. My father always looks for ways to share his passions with me, allowing me to learn new things and strengthen our relationship. I am very grateful for these special moments we share together.
I believe that I would be a good fit for your family because I am a very adaptable person. I am open to new experiences and always try to make the most out of every situation. I am also a caring and empathetic individual, and I always try to put myself in other people’s shoes. I believe in being kind and respectful to everyone, and I always try to make others feel comfortable and welcome. I am also a very responsible person, and I take my commitments seriously. Whether it’s my studies, my family responsibilities, or my personal goals, I always give my best effort and do everything I can to succeed. I strive to maintain a positive attitude even in difficult situations, as I believe that maintaining an optimistic mindset is essential for personal growth.
The main reason I want to spend a year abroad is to experience life in a different country and immerse myself in a new culture. I believe that studying abroad will help me grow as a person and allow me to learn more about the world around me. I am very excited about the possibility of living with a new family, as I know this will offer me a unique opportunity to understand different ways of life and build lasting memories. I am also passionate about learning new languages, and I hope that this experience will help me improve my language skills and gain a deeper appreciation for other cultures. This opportunity will allow me to expand my horizons and become a more globally aware individual.
I am particularly excited to live with your family because I absolutely love animals. If you have any pets, I would be thrilled to spend time with them and care for them. I find that animals bring so much joy and comfort into our lives, although I've never been lucky enough to have a pet.
I also adore young children, and I would be happy to take care of any little ones you may have. I am patient, responsible, and I like playing with them. I find great joy in helping others, and I know that I can contribute positively to your family dynamic. I colaborate daily with house hold choses, keeping my room organizaded and tyding up the kitchen.
Thank you so much for considering me to be a part of your family. I am really looking forward to this experience and can’t wait to get to know all of you better. I truly appreciate your willingness to open your home to me, and I promise to do my best to be a positive, respectful, and helpful member of your family. I am incredibly excited about this opportunity, and I can’t wait to begin this new chapter of my life.
Thank you again for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Carlota
