Dear host family,

Hi!

My name is Alexandre, I am 16 years old, and I live in a large city. I live with both my parents, my only brother, and my dog, in an apartment.

I am really looking forward to being welcomed by you and to being part of your daily life for the following months! Furthermore, I must thank you for accepting me for this period!

I have been thinking about this exchange program for months. It is important for me and I am sure it will help me gain more academic knowledge for my curriculum, meet new people and friends, grow as a person and be more independent. To sum up, I expect the experience to be unforgettable and add in my personal and academic/professional life.

Moreover, on my daily basis I have few, but indispensable obligations at home, like tidying up my room and doing my dishes. In my house the main rule is: if you get something dirty, you should clean it. We don't have many rules as I already know what my parents expect from me. For exemple, I don't play on my PlayStation during weekdays, even though it is not prohibited. The majority of my responsibilities are school related, so I spend a lot of time doing my work and tasks to get them well-done and  I also enjoy helping my friends’ study.

At school my routine is not easy, I have loads of work to do every time, so I always try to do it as best as possible, but without leaving my personal hobbies behind. Since 2024, when I entered high school, I have been doing an optional biology class twice a month, in Friday’s afternoon after my regular classes, and I discovered a big liking of mine in this subject that I didn’t knew of, but I find it awesome since it already helps me find out what I could do as a job. I also did a marine biology program where I had a trip to a beach in another state and did research on the local life, which, honestly, was great and I had a lot of fun with my friends, beyond getting to understand loads of new things! Another thing is that I am more of a Science and Mathematics person, usually my best grade being Mathematics.

Beyond that, every year my school creates charity programs for the high school students, which I always participate in the financial part of the project. In 2023, I was gifted with the opportunity to visit the daycare we were helping, and it was awesome to play with the kids! I really cannot describe the feeling, but it was unforgettable and pleasing to see the people our actions would be helping.

Apart from school, I enjoy spending my weekends going out with my friends to the mall, to play football or to meet in someone’s house, but I also need to stay home doing my own things. However, in Saturday’s night I have the presence of my uncle and aunt for a small eating at my house, in these moments I like to watch soccer with my uncle and father. In the vacations, my family and I usually travel somewhere for two weeks. Overall, I would describe my time distant from school as spending time with family and friends.

Beyond that, my main hobbies are playing soccer (I play almost every weekend) and video games in my free time, studying my own interests and working out in the gym four to five times a week. In the end of the day, I also like telling my mother the things I did and talking with my father about our soccer team matches, players and competitions.

I know that it will not be easy to get used to living in another country, to make new friends and getting to understand the house rules, but I will do my best to adapt fast in a way that is good for everyone. To overcome these difficulties, I will be open-minded and committed to making this exchange period good for me and my host family!

Thank you for reading my letter! I am looking forward to hearing back from you!

Warm regards,

Alexandre
