Dear Host Family,

My name is Pius, and I am 16 years old, currently studying in the 11th grade at high school. My favorite subjects are Math and Biology, but I also enjoy Sports and History. I am applying for a one-year exchange program in the United States, because I am excited to experience American culture, meet new people, and learn about a different educational system and its natural diversity.

I live with my family in my Hometown in Western Germany. My family includes my parents and my sister. My father works as an engineer, and my mother works at University. We spend a lot of time together, often hiking, skiing, or going on bike trips during the holidays. My grandmother is also an important person in our family, and I love baking Christmas cookies with her every year.

One of my strengths is my good sense of rhythm and teamwork, which I developed by playing the piano and performing in a youth orchestra and my school band. Playing team sports like floorball and volleyball has also helped me improve my communication and teamwork skills. I like the spirit of supporting each other within the team. I am also very open-minded and like trying out new things in life.

I am always ready to try new activities, experiences, and challenges, and I look forward to learning something new every day.

I am really looking forward to getting involved in school activities in the U.S., especially the "clubs," as they seem like a great way to make new friends and try new things. In my free time, I enjoy exploring different hobbies depending on the season. In the summer, I like outdoor activities such as surfing, canyoning, and sailing when I can. I also enjoy trying sports like golf and tennis, and I am always open to trying something new.

When I'm not busy with school or sports, I like spending time with my friends and family. For example, I enjoy cooking with my friends, watching movies, playing video games with our neighbors, or just relaxing. I am also interested in animals and plants, and I love exploring nature. Taking care of exotic plants in our family greenhouse has become a special hobby of mine.

Besides my personal interests, I am also involved in community work. I am part of the youth council for kids aged 12 to 17 in my town, where we come up with new ideas for activities in our town, such as creating a dirt bike track. I also help with a school mentoring program and volunteer. I help organize a play program for children with a construction theme and participate in library activities like Cardboard game nights and 3D printing workshops. These experiences have taught me responsibility, teamwork, and how great it feels to help others.

I am excited to bring my curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to contribute to my host family and school community in the U.S. I look forward to making new friends, learning about your traditions, and sharing mine. Thank you for offering children like me such a great experiance.

Best regards,
Pius
