 Dear future host family,

my name is Johann, I am 16 years old, and I am currently in 10th grade. It has been a dream of mine for years to participate in a student exchange program. The USA is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in the world. I firmly believe that the only way to truly experience the American way of live is by living it. I hope that a student exchange will give me the opportunity to do exactly that. Additionally, I would love to share some aspects of my own culture with you. During the exchange, I aim to make many new friends, learn and experience a variety of new things, and build a strong connection with my host family – one that lasts even after I return to Germany. Of course, I also hope to improve my English skills.

The most important reason why I want to participate in a student exchange is my love for new experiences, meeting new people, and forming new friendships.

I have lived in my town all my live. Here I live with my father, my mother, and my younger sister. My parents both work in local hospitals, and my sister and I attend local high schools. After school I want to study to become a doctor since that has been a dream of mine for years. Although we do not have any pets, we all love animals. During holidays, we often visit different cities in and around Germany. Since we have never left Europe, the United States will be a completely new experience for me.

I attend the 10th grade at a high school. I generally enjoy school, but like everyone, I have my favorite subjects. Mine are biology, sports, music, politics, and, of course English. I know that the school system in our country is quite different, and I am curious to see how American high schools work. I am particularly excited to try some of the diverse subjects offered in the U.S., as they seem more varied and interesting than those we have in Germany.

Since I can remember, I have been very active and interested in a variety of activities. In my free time, I enjoy skating, climbing, and dancing - I am generally very sportive. I also play the violin in two orchestras and work as a soccer referee. Even though I already have many hobbies, I am eager to try uniquely American activities like football or baseball, as these sports are rarely played in Germany, yet are incredibly popular in the U.S..

Due to my strong interest in political and global topics, I find it fascinating to visit new countries, learn about their cultures, and see how they function. The United States, being a multicultural country with a distinct political system, will undoubtedly provide an exciting and enriching experience for me.

In my free-time, I also enjoy meeting with friends. We often play games, cook together, or simply hang out and talk - it’s always a lot of fun. On Sundays, I go to church, where I lead the group of altar servers.

I would describe myself as optimistic, positive, outgoing and quite ambitious. I am really talkative but also a good listener.

I am truly excited to meet you

Best regards,

Johann
