Dear host family,

I’m so happy to write this letter to you. My name is Mario, and I am 14 years old. I live in the north of Spain in a small village with less than 1.500 inhabitants. I live with my family in a house with a garden.

In my family we are four people: my father, my mother, my sister and me. My father is a teacher in a town near our village. He teaches his students to repair and paint cars. My mother is clerk in a company near my school that produces plants of vegetables from seeds.

My sister is older than me, but I’m the tallest in my family. We both love basketball and we also share more hobbies. I have a good relationship with her and we spend a lot of time together.

At weekends, when there is not a basketball competition, the four of us go for a walk up the mountains and in summer, we go to the beach that is ten minutes away by car. Also, I spend my free time with the rest of my family, meeting with my friends or playing videogames.

When we have holidays, our family likes to travel to different places in our van. We have an orange, old and cute van. For example, two years ago we drove from the south to the north of Portugal.

I studied in a little catholic school in which, when I was 6 years old, I was promoted one academic year. That’s why now I study 4th ESO (grade 10) in a high school.

My favorite subjects are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Although I like Science, I still don´t know what I would like to do in my future.

My favorite sport is basketball and I love it. I started to play when I was a child. Two years ago, my team won the regional league and we went to the national championship. I enjoy a lot playing this sport. If possible, I would love to play basketball in my high school because in USA the basketball is very important and well promoted. It is also one of my dreams.

Besides, I love cooking and playing videogames in my free time. I consider myself a very happy, sociable, open-minded, and very responsible person.

Next year I would like to live a lot of new experiences, get to know a new culture and its people, and to improve my English. I have chosen to go to the USA because I have always liked the American lifestyle that I’ve watched in the series. Also, my sister is nowadays in the USA, and she recommended me to live this fantastic experience.

At the same time, I would like to show some things about my Spanish culture to my host family, such as food, traditions, games… and of course I will collaborate in the housework.

I am looking forward to start this new experience with you.
