Hello, my name is Yejin. I’m 15 years old. I’m attending Middle school now. My family has four members : Mom, Dad, older sister and me. My dad is kind and take good care of me. He is also very diligent. He works hard at something without pausing for a moment. My mom always listens to me well. I like to talk with her about history. My older sister has a sense of humor. She is sometimes feisty but she listens to me well. I usually take with her about K-pop idols.
I live in a city near the sea. It is close to Japan. I’ve been to Japan by ship for a family trip before. It is is a nice city which has warm weather, a lot of beaches, and also a nice bridge.
Now, let me tell you about my school life. My grades are in the top group. My favorite class is English class because the English teacher gives me a good lesson. Second is Art class. I don’t like math but the grades are not bad. I always do my best. Since I transferred to my current school, I only have a few friends. But I’m very close to them. Among them, two have similar interests with me so I enjoy talking with them, The other two have different interests with me but I like to share them with each other. I often go to karaoke and cafe with them.
Let me tell you about what I did in my life up to now. When I was 7 years old, I learned to paint for the first time at the art academy and had an exhibition in the elementary school. And I also learned to play the piano. I’ve participated a piano contest before. Moreover, I took a guitar lesson at the center in the department store for 2 years. It was difficult to play the guitar. I quit it because I had to prepare for the exam. I also like outdoor activities. I learned how to skate in-line. I felt a bit scared but it was exciting. I also learned various jump rope techniques. Besides that, I like to ride a bike with my friend and to play badminton with my dad.
I like to film and edit a video. When I come home after a family trip, I collect and edit the videos I took at the travel destination, The reason why I do that is because I think it will be a good memory in the future. My mom really likes the videos I edited.
My dream job is a diplomat because I’m interested in learning new languages. I learned Vietnamese for a while. Then I realized that learning new languages is interesting. Although I can’t remember Vietnamese now, I think of it as a good memory. I’m going to learn a new language later.
I’ve traveled to Singapore, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Grand circle, Rome, Firenze, Japan, South Island of New Zealand. The most memorable thing was camping in a camper van in New Zealand. It was a very fresh memory.
Finally, I’ll tell you why I apply for this program. My mom’s suggestion was the beginning. She accidentally learned about the exchange student program through an old book. I searched more about the program and I finally got interested in that. I have good English scores, but I’m not good at speaking English because I have not had much experience. I think it will be helpful for improving my English speaking skill to go to America as an exchange student. I also wonder the lifestyle of American students. And I want to enjoy the holidays such as Christmas and Halloween with a host family locally because celebrating them is not common in Korea.
I am looking forward to meeting a host family. I am confident that I will get along with any host family I meet.
