My name is Enrique, although almost everyone calls me Kike. I am 14 years old. I believe that studying in the United States for a year is a great opportunity to experience a new culture, improve my English, and, most importantly, make new friends. Last summer, I spent three weeks in different cities in the United States as part of a basketball training program. I split my time between the New York and Boston areas. It was an amazing experience that I remember with great excitement.Since last summer I am looking forward to being a year in a high school in the United States.

I live in a small city in the north of  Spain, with my parents, my sister, and my dog Hera, who I love taking for walks and playing with.

My grandparents live nearby, so I get to visit them often. My grandmother lives in the same city and she drives to school two days a week. She is a great cooker and she cooks the best spanish omelet you can taste. I have asked her to train me to do it in the united states. It will not be so tasty but i will do my best.

My grandfather and the other grandmother live in a village in the mountains, one hour drive through. I spend nearly a month of my summer time in the village. I have a group of friends since we were child and we enjoy a lot, cycling, swimming in the river, looking the stars at night, and geting around the mountains. It is a very small village where every one knows each other.

I have 7 cousins , one of them older than me and we spend the summer in the beach surfing and skating. My youngest cousins spend the summer with our grandparents in the village in the mountains and they are really funny. I enjoy playing with them board games such as chess, Catan, Risk,parcheesi..

My city  is surrounded by the sea, but it also has mountains close by, which allows me to enjoy both landscapes. I even get to go skiing, one of my favorite sports along with basketball, my true passion. I like living in this city because it doesn’t get too hot; I actually prefer cold weather over the high temperatures in other parts of Spain.

I really enjoy sports, especially skiing and basketball, which is my passion. I have been playing for my school team since I was six years old. I also go skiing several times a year with my family and friends. I started when I was just three years old, and I consider myself quite good at it. I would also love to try new sports and activities in the United States.

I study at the same school where I started when I was three years old and have made many friends. My favorite subjects are mathematics, physics and chemistry, technology, and robotics.

I am a basket lover and my basket coach is my role model.  I am not completely sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I think teaching could be an option.

This year i became a basket referee after a training course during the holidays. I like to referee every weekend. I am happy to help other teams with this. I am fair in arbitrationan and I like to explain the rules when someone asks or does not understand.

About me I like to draw, read comics, go out to play with my friends and walk my dog Hera. I think that i missed them next year, but i am happy about all the things that I will live and i can share with them when I come back.

My sister lived the experience to spend a year in a high school in Maine, two years ago, and she told me that it is amazing. Other thing i would like to do, if possible, is to attend to a NBA basketball match . Maybe it is not possible, but i think that this will be a dream for me.

I am happy to help at home with the clothes washing, putting the table, picking up the room and helping in other tasks in the house. If the family has a pet, i can take care about it, I love animals.

Thank you for considering my application. I am very excited about the possibility of studying in the United States and embracing this new experience.
Best regards,
Enrique (Kike)
