Dear host family and school,
I am a seventeen-year-old boy. I live in a big city in Germany. I will finish my tenth grade in the summer of 2025. I would like to attend the eleventh grade in the US. After returning, I plan to either complete high school or pursue a profession.
I am self-reliant in most aspects of my life. I am a social person, but sometimes I need a safe haven. I believe I am helpful, empathetic, open-minded, and able to mediate between people.
I have an older sister. We were both adopted as newborns from different mothers. My parents are divorced, and I spend equal time living with each of them. Their apartments are close to each other, near nature but also not far from downtown. I have a close relationship with my grandparents, who live in a town 250 km south of us. I enjoy visiting them and appreciate their support when I need it.
My friends are very important to me, and I like to meet them as often as possible. They support my decision to go abroad, and I am sure we will stay friends.
I am very passionate about sports and fitness. In my free time, I often go jogging and play basketball with a friend. I have been playing basketball for three years and on Saturdays I frequently participate in basketball competitions. I also enjoy listening to music. Last year I attended the Rolling Loud Festival in Vienna and the year before I saw Travis Scott live in Rome. I love watching movies, especially action and comedy films like Blade Runner and Good Boys. I enjoy preparing food and cooking. My favorite dishes are steak, pizza and pasta. I have traveled to many European countries because, for me, exploring new cities, meeting people, and experiencing beautiful landscapes gives me a sense of freedom.
I want to take advantage of this unique opportunity at my age to spent a school year in the US. I am curious about the American school system, culture, commercial products and family life. I am passionate about basketball and dream of playing on a high-school team. I admire many aspects of US culture, including rap, blues, food and multicultural diversity. I would love to live with a host family that has pets, especially dogs and I think it would be great to have host siblings.
I believe the American school system will allow me to study more effectively while also having fun. I dream of wearing American fashion and look forward to exploring American cities and nature. Most importantly, I am excited to personally experience life in an American family.
Yours sincerely,
Milan
