Dear Host Family,
I hope you’re doing well! My name is Miriam Thalia, but everyone calls me Mimi. I am beyond excited about the possibility of spending my exchange year with you! The idea of becoming part of your family, sharing your traditions and experiencing life in the U.S. is something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time.
I’m 16 years old and live in Germany, where I lead a busy but exciting life full of school, sports, music, creativity and time with family and friends. My parents are really supportive of my exchange year, even though it took some time to convince them! They trust that I’ll do well and are happy for me, even if they’ll miss me a lot.
I’d describe myself as adventurous, open-minded and full of energy, but I’m also a pretty calm person in general. I love spending time with people - whether it’s going on trips, playing sports or just talking for hours. I especially love meeting up with my best friend and taking a lot of photos together. I love capturing things in vlogs or photos. Also, I love being outside, whether it’s hiking, going to the beach or simply taking a walk in the fresh air. At the same time, I also really appreciate quiet moments on my own, whether it’s reading, listening to music or just relaxing. You could say I’m an ambivert - I can be super social and energetic, but I also enjoy recharging by myself when I need it.
I have big dreams for my future and I see this exchange year as a way to truly grow, step out of my comfort zone and immerse myself in a new culture. My dream is to attend a bigger high school with strong school spirit, plenty of sports options and subjects that truly interest me.
I love staying active and trying new things! Some of my biggest passions are:
I’d love to explore different places in the U.S. with my host family - it would be such an amazing way to bond and make memories together!
I really value kindness, open communication and spending time together as a family. I’d love to be part of a household where we can share stories at the dinner table, go on little trips and just enjoy time together. I hope to find a host family that share hobbies with me (cooking, traveling, etc.), and also that enjoy spending time together.
One thing that would be very great, is having a sibling around my age. I have a brother, so I’m used to having a sibling and I know how much it means to have someone to share experiences with. I’d also love to experience road trips, movie nights, outdoor activities and everyday traditions together. And if you have pets, that’s great—I love animals!
This exchange is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience new things, grow as a person and create unforgettable memories. I hope to bring positivity, fun and an open heart into your home while learning from you and sharing my own culture.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter. I can’t wait to meet you and start this exciting journey together!
Best wishes,
Mimi
