Dear guest family,

At first I want to say that I am very grateful to live with you and be part of your daily life. This experience allows me to learn so much about your culture and traditions. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality!

Via this letter I would like to introduce myself. My name is Fien and I was born and raised in the south of Germany. This year I will finish my school and would like to visit a high school in the USA for a year. Last summer, my family and I were on holidays in the USA and it was so much fun. We visited large cities, like New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas. But we also saw the beautiful nature in national parks, for example the huge Red Wood trees near Santa Cruz.

I enjoy reading fantasy and romance books and do sports several times a week. Field hockey is where I get my exercise from. My team is actually quite good and we have played in the state championship finals several times already. Another interest of mine is English language. I’m in a voluntary English class once a week and sometimes read books in English. By getting the opportunity to visit a US high school I hope my knowledge of the English language will further improve.

My first name, Fien, is pronounced as the last part of Josephine. When I meet people here in Germany I often have to explain where my name originates from, as it’s not a common name in Germany at all. Fien is a Dutch name. My father is from The Netherlands and moved to Germany before I was born. At least twice a year we visit The Netherlands and at home I speak Dutch with my dad and German with my mom. My sister also has a Dutch name.

Looking forward to meeting you soon and to spend a wonderful time together in the USA.

Kind regards,

Fien
