Hello my name is Mathias I’m 17 years old, I was born in Spain but I lived all my life in Ecuador, my family consists of my dad, my mom, my brother and my dog Ramon. I am interested in this program because I want to explore new experiences that will serve me for the rest of my life, like meeting new friends, exploring a different culture and improving my English. I have always been interested in the exchange program but what made me want to be on this the most is my brother’s experience; he told me all about his experience and that made me choose it.

I am passionate about sports in general, but the sport that I like the most is soccer, I play soccer every day in a team and with my friends.

I describe myself as a sociable, adventurous, creative, friendly and someone who pays attention to his emotions. also, I am a person who cares about others and is very passionate about the things he likes.

I have a good relationship with my family, we always talk about our day at dinner and spend some quality time. On weekends, my grandmother usually invites us to eat traditional food like “hornado” or “fritada”.

Apart from that, on weekends I like to hang out with my friends. We usually play soccer or we just hang out at someone’s house. I have two best friends Francisco and Sebastian, with my friend Fran I go to the gym during the week and the three of us are in the same class.

At high school I’m very good at math, physics, and chemistry. My weak point is literature and biology, but I’m always trying my best. I play in the soccer team and I have also played on the basketball team, the chess team and the ecuavolley team, which is a traditional Ecuadorian sport similar to volleyball but for men.

Returning to the topic. I have always dreamed of experiencing a year abroad, this adventure that would allow me to grow as a person and expand my horizons. I believe a cultural exchange is the perfect opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and discover new facets of myself. I am drawn to the idea of learning from new perspectives, but also to meet new people, and create memorable relationships.

I am very interested in American culture, especially its history, music, and film. I like the opportunity to visit iconic places and experience local traditions also I want to learn more about the everyday life in the United States.

I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to live this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm deeply grateful to my parents for giving me this opportunity. I will make the most of every moment and I’m sure my stay is going to be a positive experience for everyone.
