Dear host family,
I hope this letter finds you well! My name is Léontine and I’m 15 years old (I will be 16 when I get in your place). If you read this letter you’re probably the family that will host me next year. So to know me better I will introduce myself.
My family and my friends say I’m generous, friendly, reliable, ambitious and fun. I’m a little quiet too but never with them.
I’m the oldest of 3 children, I have a sister and one brother. I have a cat Hina, I grew up with it. With my family, I play board games, go shopping, cook/bake, we play tennis, basketball, soccer and many others sports, we talk, laugh… I love spending time with my family. In my view, family is extremely important.
I have a wonderful group of friends. We enjoy spending time together, whether it’s hanging out, talking about our lives, shopping or just revising. They always know how to make me laugh and I love talking with them.
I love skiing, wakeboarding, playing basketball (I’ve been practicing basketball for 7 years), I also like sports with racket like tennis but I’m not really gifted.
I enjoy shopping, gossiping, watching tv series like all teenagers. I’m keen on cooking and baking, I can spend a lot of time in a kitchen, I prefer cooking to baking because we don’t really need a recipe, we can just cook instinctively and in my opinion it’s funnier than just follow a recipe. I would love to learn some of your family recipes and maybe even cook a few dishes from my culture to share with you.
I don’t really like school but, I don’t hate it either. I’m rather a good student. My favorites subjects are English, history and physics. I don’t really know what I want to do later but I hope this exchange year can help me in my choices.
During the week, in the morning, I wake up at 6:30. First I have a shower and I get dressed. I eat my breakfast with my family except for my brother (his school starts later than mine). I finish getting ready (I brush my teeth and my hair, I pack my bag…). Then I go to school (my school starts at 8:15 a.m), I have between 4 and 7 hours of classes every day, I eat in the canteen every school day. The afternoon, I finish school at 5:35 or sometimes earlier. Afterward when I get home, I do my homework, go to basketball training twice a week, watch a movie or spend time with my family. Around 8 p.m, we eat as a family, it’s a moment when everyone tells their day. Finally, I go to bed at 10 p.m.
During the weekend, I have a basketball match, I do my homework of course, I see my friends, I go shopping in the big city next to my town or we get together with my whole family for birthdays or others celebrations. Sometimes we just stay at home in family and play board games, watch movies…
I want to participate in this exchange program in order to improve my English of course, but mainly to live something I will never forget, to learn a different culture, to open up to the world… I have chosen your country because I have always dreamt to live in the USA as a “American” teenager and not as a tourist. Moreover your country has every landscapes, the big city and the small campaign, the sea and the forest, the snow with cold weather and the beach with hot weather… and it fascinate me.
I’m so excited to meet you, get to know you, share your lifestyle and discover your wonderful country, but I am a little bit afraid anyway. I’m very impatient to learn about your culture and to teach you mine. I really thank you for your kindness and your courage to host a student. I look forward to meet you.
Kind regards.
Léontine
