Dear American Family,

My name is Sofija and I am from Serbia. I am currently in my freshman year of high school.

I live with my parents, my grandparents and my younger sister, who's only a year younger than me. I really like reading and watching movies. I am also very interested in history. My biggest fear are spiders and bugs. My mom studied English in college, so she started teaching me when I was very young.

Me and my family live in one of those smaller towns where people all mostly know each other. Living in a small place has both it's good and bad sides, and even though I couldn't imagine myself living in a small town in the future, I really like how you always run into someone you know on the streets. Another thing I like about my hometown is that a lot of my other family members live here as well, so we often see them.

My parents, sister and I often travel together and visit new cities and places. It's one of my favorite thigs we do together. We also like to watch movies, go on walks and play board games. My main responsibility at home is to keep my room clean and my things in place. I also help with cleaning the rest of the house, emptying the trash can and going grocery shopping.

My favorite way of spending time is hanging out with my friends. They are very important to me and I love being with them, wether we're going out, watching TV, getting ready together, playing sports or just talking and doing nothing. In my friendgroup I'm usually the one others come to when they need an advice, the one that helps them when they don't understand the schoolwork. My friends would describe me as the person who can be very serious in some situatons, but still always makes them laugh and laughs with them. I've always loved meeting new people and making friends has always been easy to me.

I am the kind of person that likes to do things thoughrily and in detail. I like to plan in advance and I already know what I want to do in the future. I plan to study law and work as a lawyer or something similar in that field, to live in a big city in another country surrounded with peope I love and travel around the world.

I applied to this program because an exchange year is a mix of many interests of mine: traveling, speaking and learning other languages, meeting new people, trying new things, being away from home and feeling independent. I've also always wished to visit the Unitet States, and, same as all Europians, I would love to experience the American high school and everything it includes.

During my exchange year I'd like to try as many new things as possible, see new places, meet new people and do things I wouldn't be able to do at home. I hope this experience will help me figure out better what I want to do in the future and that I will make a lot of lifelong memories.

Thank you so much for considering me to be your host daughter!

Thank you.

Sofija
