Dear Host Family,

My name is Juli. I am really excited to come to the USA next year! I will try my best to tell you about myself and my life here in Germany, so that you can get to know me better.

I am 15 years old and I live in a house together with my brother, my sister and my parents. We live in the suburbs of one of the largest cities in Germany, but we also have a lot of nature around us. I really enjoy the mix of the urban and rural surrounding. Our village is quite small, but it doesn´t take long to get into the next big city.

I was born and raised in Germany, but I also have Hungarian roots because my mother is Hungarian. That´s why I can speak Hungarian too. I really love both cultures and how we have traditions from both sides of the family. When we were younger, we had Hungarian Au pairs several times, so we are used to welcoming new members into our family.

In my free time, I often do creative things like drawing. I really enjoy this, because it´s very relaxing, and I can listen to my podcasts or music at the same time. Reading books is another way I love to relax and imagine my own little world. I could not live without my books. Music is also a really important part of my life. I've been playing the piano for ten years, and it’s something I truly enjoy. I´m very thankful for my grandparents who gave me the piano lessons as a gift for my fifth birthday. But it’s not just about playing, I love everything that has to do with music. Going to concerts is one of my favorite things to do. If I could, I’d go every week! Everyone in my family loves music too: my mum used to play the cello, my father plays the trumpet, my little brother plays the drums, and my little sister also plays the piano. I like playing together with her. Something that I just discovered for myself that has to do with music is dancing. I take dance lessons once a week with my best friend, and that is honestly one of the best parts of my week. This is my weekly workout, along with yoga and cycling. On weekends, I love watching movies or series with my family or friends. From fantasy to romance, action to musicals - I love all kinds of movies.

My family and I love travelling. We often take trips in our campervan, sometimes just for the weekend, but mostly during holidays. It´s so practical to have a mobile home with you, and we’ve taken so many nice trips to wonderful places with it. We also go on bigger trips to different countries and cultures. The best part about traveling is to experience how people live and to discover unique places. I especially love to go to locations where it´s not too crowded.

Just as I love spending time with my family, I really enjoy hanging out with my friends. Especially in summer, when we can go outside and enjoy the nice weather together. Now that it’s warmer, we love to play volleyball or go somewhere for a picnic. My favorite days are when we go to the beach together. When the weather is not that good, we often bake together or go to the cinema.

I'm very interested in psychology, so I'll probably go in that direction later on, but I don't know anything more specific yet.

I am so excited for this exchange year, even though it´s still more than a year away. If you are curious, I would love to cook something German or even Hungarian for you. And I will be happy to tell you everything you want to know about both countries and their cultures.

I would like to become a part of your life and your family. I can share our family traditions, get creative with you, take part in your activities, meet your friends and family, and make great memories together. For me, it is a matter of course to help wherever I can. I am happy to take on duties in and around the house, just like everyone else in the family. These things are part of my everyday life at home too. I also like getting involved in the community or helping with voluntary activities.

I am very thankful that you are willing to give me this opportnity so i can make my dream come true. It rally means a lot to me that you put your trust in me.

I am really looking forward to this big adventure and getting to know you. I hope I was able to describe myself in a way that helps you get a good idea of who I am.

Greetings from Germany,

Juli
