Dear Host Family,
My name is Lina and I live in Germany.
I love to play field hockey, a sport I have been playing for seven years. I would love to continue playing field hockey during my year abroad. Last year, our team spent three weeks in Chile for an exchange trip. There, we had to play against a lot of teams in Chile and stay with host families. What I love most about field hockey is the speed and the strong team spirit.
I also have been playing soccer on a girls' team since 2021. Our team has been very successful. My great passion for soccer started in kindergarten.
My interests are very much focused on sports, and I'm also open to trying other sports. In school, I had the experience to try basketball, floorball, frisbee, swimming, and track and field.
I am also involved in the Youth Advisory Council, where I have been a member since November 2023. There are 13 young people who take care of the interests of youth in my area. We collect the wishes and needs of young people and present them to local politicians. We help to giving young people a voice.
In my free time, I enjoy meeting up with friends, baking, watching entertaining movies for teenagers, and spending time with my family.
I am currently in the 9th grade. My school is not far away from my home. I enjoy going to school because I have nice teachers and friends there. I have been learning English since 2019 and French since 2022.
My day starts at 6:30 a.m. Then I get ready for school and have breakfast. I riding with my bike to school. School finishes at 3:00 p.m. My favorite subjects are sports, English, French, and math.
My parents are sporty and enjoy traveling and spending time together as a family.
I have a twin sister. We are in the same class. Her hobbies are field hockey and playing the guitar.
I have a younger brother. He loves playing badminton or doing activities with his friends.
We often visit my grandparents, who live about 30-minute drive away. When we have time, we do a lot of things with them or stay overnight. Last summer vacation, my grandma and my family went on a trip together.
I live with my parents and my two siblings in a house with a garden and an outdoor pool. It's possible for us kids to go to school, sports, and friends all by bike. This means we are very independent and can organize our daily lives on our own.
I am very happy in my area, but also, I‘m very intrested about what life is in another country. I find the opportunity to live with a host family very exciting because it allows you to experience all the traditions, culture, school, and everyday life up close.
My twin sister already done a two-month student exchange program. Her exchange student visited us for two months. This was a very nice for our entire family. I will also be do a German-French exchange program in the summer of 2025. My exchange student came to stay with us for two months in May 2025, and in August 2025, I will go to France for two months.
My family and I have traveled a lot. I like to see the other countries, the traditions, ways of life, and people. We have traveled by cruise ship, plane, car, and sometimes in our caravan. Some of my favorite travel destinations are Chile, France, Spitzbergen and of course Amerika. I am very grateful to my parents for giving me so many opportunities to see the world.
In the summer of 2025, my family and I were in America for about five weeks to get to know the country a little.
After my year in the USA, I will return to my school and would like to graduate with my “Abitur“ in 2030. After that, I would like to study at a university. I don't have a specific career idea yet and am currently open to many possibilities. I can imagine working in an international company later, where I can use my experiences I gained abroad.
I believe that a year abroad in the USA is the ideal foundation for me to develop my personality, improve my language skills, and improved my independence and self-confidence. I want to learn to find my way in a completely new environment, make new friends, and overcome challenges.
My friends describe me as a very open person who tackles new tasks with great motivation and joy, and always tries to have a good enviroment with the community.
My sports activities are very important to me, and I would be happy to be placed with a very sporty family during my year abroad so that we can share our love for sports and do activities together. I am also open for new activities.
My goal is to do a lot with my host family and actively contribute to our daily life. I would also love to learn a lot about my host country.
I look forward to becoming part of a host family and also sharing a part of my culture with them.
