Korea Hello, my name is Joo. I’m 14 years old and currently living in Korea. I’m really excited about the opportunity to learn America.
Let me first introduce my family and daily life. There are four people in my family: my mom, dad, younger sister, and me. My mom is an elementary school teacher, so she often teaches us a lot of useful things. My dad works at a bicycle company, so my sister and I both have our own bikes, and we ride them together often. My sister is very cute and good at jump rope.
As the oldest child, I’ve become quite independent and responsible. I think that’s one of the reasons I can choose this program on myself. My family is very warm and close. On weekends, we usually play board games together, and those moments are really special to me.
Now I’d like to talk about my school life and what I’m interested in these days. I’m the class president, and I’ve been doing this role every year. When I was in elementary school, I was also the school president. I’m also the leader of our debate club. We meet once a week to learn debate rules and practice discussing different topics.
My favorite subject is science, and these days I’m especially into astronomy. I recently attended a special lecture at KAIST about space. I learned about things like the Voyager spacecraft and the Kardashev scale, which made me even more curious about the universe.
I also love communicating with others, so I really enjoy joining global exchange or interaction programs.
As for my hobbies, I like reading books, writing stories, and playing musical instruments. I even wrote a script for the Odyssey of the Mind World Creative Olympiad. I can play the piano, violin, and a few other instruments as well.
The reason I am applying for this program is because I’ve dreamed of living in the U.S. since I was little. Last year, I made that dream more clear and realistic, and now I’m finally taking a step toward it. I want to become a global leader and experience a bigger world beyond Korea.
Lastly, I’d say I’m a very passionate person. I always try to do my best, even when I’m not really into something. I’m also quite competitive, so sometimes I challenge myself like it’s a competition, even if I’m doing it alone. But I also know when I need to work together instead of competing, and I think that balance is one of my strengths.
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I’m really looking forward to all the new experiences this program will bring!
Sincerely,
Joo
