Hello, my name is Subin and I am 14 years old living in Korea. By the time I leave for the United States in August 2026, I will be 15 and a half years old, though.^^

I dreamed of becoming an American exchange student because of the experiences I got from my short-term language program in Canada that I participated in January 2024. There were difficult moments because of language problems, and I also had a hard time because my homework took a long time with my English skills back then, so I often stayed up late after finishing it every day when I came back home. But those hard moments made me more confident and gave me a habit of turning hard things into positive situations. I also had new lessons every day as I experienced a new world. One of the things I learned in Canada was that there are so many different people and cultures in the world. Of course, everyone knows this, but what I experienced firsthand and what I only heard and learned were very different. So I thought that I wanted to feel a wider and more diverse world.

I looked into many study abroad routes and learned about the American exchange student program along the way. I read blogs of people who participated and saw the difficult moments they went through. But at the same time, I saw the things that only they could experience. My will became stronger, and finally now I am putting it into action.

Now, I want to tell you about myself. My English name is Rozy. Growing up with two younger siblings, I learned responsibility from an early age as the eldest daughter. So I often play the role of a leader in a team, and I try to take care of my team members and lead them well. I also have good judgment. I am quick-witted, good at taking action, and very calm. So I do not get surprised when someone suddenly tries to scare me or when there is a loud noise. One time, while playing with a friend, her arm was twisted. I made an arm brace out of clothes and gave emergency help, which prevented a big injury. I also think that my open-minded and positive personality is one of my strengths.

Because of that personality, I always challenge myself to gain more experiences. At school, I participate in the library club, the dance club, and the student council, and I am the vice president of the school. I have grown a lot through these activities with many people, and I will continue to challenge myself and grow more in the future. My homeroom teacher once told me that I am a student who lives life diligently. I had never thought about myself that way, but through the teacher’s words I was able to look back on myself, and I felt really proud.

I have done ballet since I was young. I really loved ballet and worked hard. Through ballet, I discovered that I am persistent and hardworking. Although I am not doing ballet now, I think the long years I did it are my precious experience. Maybe because I liked moving my body through ballet, I like dancing now. At school, I am in the dance club and perform in many shows.

Through the American exchange student program, I want to expand my potential and develop my strengths. I hope to get along well with my host family without awkwardness, to learn culture while attending an American school, and to be a part of them. And I will try hard to achieve this. I hope I can fulfill my wish and make good memories together. I am preparing and waiting in Korea for the day to meet you. :)

Best,

Subin(Rozy)
