Spain Dear future host family,
I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be part of an American family. I can’t wait to experience American culture, learn your language, traditions, and way of life, and share my own experiences and culture with you.
Thank you for considering me and taking the time to read this letter.
First, I’m going to explain how I am.
I’d describe myself as an organized, honest, friendly and somewhat introverted person, as at first I can be shy, but once I start to feel comfortable I’m really talkative. My family and friends often describe me as a funny, polite and disciplined girl. They also say that sometimes I can be a little “hard-headed”.
When I have some free time I enjoy watching series and films, listening to music, playing sports and cooking and trying new recipes, and I’d love to share some of them with you. I like American food, burgers, barbeque foods, mac and cheese, peanut butter... I also love rice, fish and meat. But what I like the most are yogurt bowls, because they are made up of fruits, which I love too, and I can add a lot of things, creating different combinations.
Nowadays I’m not doing any specific sport, I just stay active working out, but since I’ve tried different ones like swimming, horse riding, tennis, and athletics, I’ll be open to try new ones. Though my favorite sport is skiing, even if I’m not able to practice it every year because I don't live near the slopes.
I live near my school, so I walk there every day.Time goes really fast inside it. The subjects I like the most are technical drawing, math, history and English.
At home I help with cleaning, I keep my room tidy, set the table and walk my dog.
Now I’m going to talk about my family and friends.
My father is a salesman and he really enjoys his work, even if he always has to answer his clients calls. It doesn’t matter if we are on vacation, he’s always available. My mother works as an administrative assistant, helping my father and she also manages home chores.
I also have an older sister who’s studying at the university, so she doesn’t live with us during weekdays. But on the weekend, she always comes to visit. She has also been in the U.S. for a cuple of times with a host family.
With us lives our dog, she’s a German shepherd and her name is Corsa. She’s the one who always welcomes us with all the joy in the world whenever we come home, and she does a really good job. She’s one more of the family.
I love spending time with my family and friends. My parents, my sister and I often go out for a walk or we just have dinner together. We sometimes take some short trips to different cities, but my favorite one is always when we go skiing.
I have a big family, and I don’t see them all every day, but on special dates like Christmas, Easter or summer we spend a lot of time together. We usually go to my grandma’s old farmhouse, where I have always spent all my summers with my cousins since I was little. It doesn’t matter what we do, we always have a lot of fun together.
I have a really close group of eight friends. We spend a lot of time together, since we all go to the same high school. We always help and support each other, and we have a lot of funny memories which we love to remember and talk about. We also enjoy meeting new people and socializing.
I believe I’ll be a great member of your family, because of my adaptability, positive attitude and enthusiasm. I will also be respectful with your family and home values.
I hope to create unforgettable memories with you, being part of your family life. I’m very excited to learn about an incredible culture, which I’m sure is yours. Even doing small things, like going to Walmart or taking part in your family traditions, would be amazing.
Thank you again for considering me. I don’t know you yet, but I’m sure you’ll change my life.
Best wishes,
Vega
