France Dear host family,
My name is Agathe, I live in France since I’m born with my dad, my mom and my little sister. I get along very well with my whole (and very big) family. I am really close with my sister, she is a couple years younger than me and I think that she is the person I will miss the most when I'll be in USA.
I am in high school and I'll be in 11th grade when I'll come to USA thanks to you. I like school and I’ve always had good grades. I’ve always been motivated by my parents to learn and discover new things. My mom is a French teacher in my middle school (She was even my teacher). She's there for me in all situations. I also have a great relationship with my dad. He's funny: his jokes aren’t always comic, that’s what makes us laugh. He’s also hardworking and he never gives up. I really like playing tennis and skiing with him.
I’m interested in many things: traveling, doing sports, hanging out with my friends, and spending time with my sister (when she’s not grumpy) or with my parents. I love watching movies or series, my favorite one is Outer Banks. I also enjoy car rides, going to the sea, and recently cooking. I’ve always done a lot of sports and tried many different ones, but the ones I prefer are dance and tennis.
I’ve always had a lot of friends. Some of them have been with me forever, and others only for a year, I love them all just the same. I have as many male friends as female friends. I believe friendship between girls and boys is possible. I think I’m a good friend Because those around me feel comfortable confiding in me, even if we haven’t known each other for long, I always try to make them smile again when they’re going through a hard time.
I’m easygoing, open-minded, and resourceful. I love to meet new people and I am really empathic. I am curious in a positive way, because I’m willing to try new things. I have a strong character, I know who I am, and I don’t let people take advantage of me, but I am respectful, so I know how to listen to criticism without getting angry. I would love to travel around the world, speak a few languages, go to a concert… When I was younger, I dreamed of weirder things, like being able to change my hair color every day or having a big brother or big sister to take my little sister’s place.
I would like to live an exchange year in the USA, because this country fascinates me since I was little. I’ve always dreamed to celebrate Halloween with friends, go shopping in New York, and have a house in a cul-de-sac with my friends’ houses around mine. I want to become bilingual since I was little, because part of my family lives in other countries like Indonesia or Switzerland, and they could speak English and French from a very young age. It frustrated me because I couldn’t switch between the two like them. This exchange year is also and mostly a way for me to prove to myself that I can handle things on my own and adapt to any situation. It will help me to organize better and show that I don’t need my parents to do everything for me. This trip will help me discover myself fully by your side.
I’ve always been considered someone full of life, and I like to share it with those around me. With you, my host family, I hope to bring a positive and respectful presence, learn your culture, and share mine with you. I will participate in everyday life, help when you need it, and I will try to get along with every member of the family as if it were mine. (I could even try to teach you French if you want.) At school, I will be motivated and curious. I’ll try to be friends with other people my age to learn English, and maybe stay in contact after I leave.
I want to sincerely thank you for welcoming me into your family and allowing me to fulfill my dream. It’s an incredible opportunity for me, and I’m really excited to discover your daily life, your habits, and to share moments with you. I hope to help make this stay enjoyable for everyone and to fully enjoy this unique experience by your side.
