Poland Dear Host Family
My name is Kaja, I am fifteen years old and I come from Poland. I am very excited about the opportunity to join your family as an exchange student in the United States. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter and get to know me a little better. I can already imagine how amazing it would be to experience everyday American life with you.
I live with my parents and younger brother, we are a very close and loving family. Family means a lot to me – not only the people who I live in my house, but also my big extended family. I have many cousins, some of whom live in different parts of the world, even on the other side of the ocean, but we still stay in touch. I really enjoy talking to them, learning about their experiences and seeing how family connections can stay strong no matter the distance. I think this taught me to value relationships and communication and to stay open to people from different places and cultures.
I am currently in my first year of high school and my favorite subjects are biology, and English. I think biology is fascinating because I love learning how the human body work. English, on the other hand is not just a school subject for me – it is a key to connecting with people from all over the world. I would love to become more fluent in it, and I plan to study in English in the future, so spending a year in the United States would be an amazing opportunity to develop my skills and confidence.
Sports are also a big part of my life. I love volleyball, I have an amazing coach and teammates, that always support me. I also practice acrobatics, it is a long story with this sport because I started when I was 4 until I was 13 then I quit and I had a 2 year break. Now I am back but in different club and I love it so much. Sports help me stay active, disciplined and focused. I really enjoy being active, trying new things and challenging myself. While in the United States I would love to discover new sports, maybe even join a school team or try basketball or cheerleading, which I have only seen in movies so far!
Another great passion of mine is traveling. I have already visited more than twenty countries and every journey has given me new perspectives and unforgettable memories. I love exploring new places, trying local food and learning how people live in different cultures. Traveling has made me realize how fascinating and diverse our world is and that is exactly what inspired me to apply for an exchange program. I want to not only see another country but truly experience daily life, values and traditions.
People often describe me as a very smiling, friendly and caring person. I love helping others and making people feel comfortable. I easily make new friends and always try to stay positive, even in difficult situations. I really enjoy spending time with younger children – I have many younger cousins and I often help take care of them. We play, do crafts or sometimes I help them with a homework. I have also been part of a volunteer group at my middle school for two years, where we organized events and supported teachers during activities for other students. Volunteering taught me the importance of kindness, teamwork and giving something back to the community.
One of the things I am most excited about during the exchange year is discovering American culture and traditions. I can not wait to experience events like Thanksgiving, Homecoming and Christmas. These are things I have seen in the movies, but I would love to live them for real. I really want to decorate pumpkins for Halloween, attend a football game or help prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. I think those moments will help me understand the true spirit of American life – the warmth, friendship and sense of belonging.
At the same time I would love to share something about Polish culture with you. My country has beautiful traditions and delicious food and I would be happy to cook something traditional, like pierogi. I would also love to show how we celebrate Christmas Eve with twelve dishes or how we paint Easter eggs. I think cultural exchange is about sharing, learning and creating memories together- and I am very excited to do these things with my host family.
Of course I under that living abroad for several months will also bring challenges. There might be moments of homesickness or cultural differences, but I believe those experiences are part of growing up and becoming more independent. I am ready to learn, to adapt and to communicate openly whenever something is difficult. I believe that with respect, understanding and a good sense of humor every challenge can be turned into a lesson.
To my future host family, I want to say a heartfelt thank you for opening your home and heart to an exchange student like me. I truly admire your kindness. I promise to respect your rules, to help in the house and to be positive, responsible member of your family. I want to share my energy and laughter with you – and I hope that in return, I will get to learn about your life, your culture and your traditions.
I am really looking forward to spending time together, helping with chores, celebrating holidays or just laughing about little things. I believe that those small, everyday moments are what make an exchange experience so special. I can not wait to become part of your family and to create beautiful memories together that will last a lifetime.
Thank you again for reading my letter and considering me as a potential member of your family. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and I hope that very soon we will meet in person and start amazing adventure together
With warm regards and a big smile,
Kaja
