Dear future host family,

First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me this incredible opportunity to spend a year abroad as an exchange student in the United States. I am extremely grateful and really looking forward to spending an amazing time with you!

My name is Kiki and I am 14 years old. I am from a small town in Germany.

I live with my parents, my sisters, and my dog Lexi. My family is warm and open, and we love spending time together - whether it’s having game nights, going for hikes in the nearby forests or attending church every Saturday. In fact, my family and I are quite religious people. We often take part in events and activities organized by our church and in general spend a lot of time among fellow Adventists.

At school, my favourite subjects are English, French and Literature. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to choose Spanish as a third language. Nevertheless, I enjoy learning new languages and getting to know different cultures, which is also one of the reasons I wanted to join this exchange program.

Additionally, I am really interested in drawing and painting, as well as in reading. It’s probably my favourite hobby and I always love spending my free time with a good book. I am into almost all genres – from poetry and romance to thrillers and action, I’m open to everything. The same goes for movies and TV shows. One of my favourite parts of the day is coming home in the evening, lying down on the couch with my mom and watching some romcoms together.

While I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly active person, I still really enjoy playing sports – especially badminton. I used to play in a club, which I unfortunately had to stop. However, I’m still extremely passionate about it and I hope I can continue playing during my time in the U.S. Of course, I would love to try out new activities as well—maybe even join a school club or attend local events with you.

I imagine that living in a new country with a new family will be a big change, but I see it as a great opportunity to grow and learn. I’m really looking forward to experiencing American school life, improving my English, and seeing what daily life is like from your perspective. I hope I can share some of my German culture with you too—maybe by cooking a few traditional dishes or teaching you some German phrases (if you're up for it!).

Thank you again for being willing to host a student. I’m so looking forward to meeting you and becoming a part of your family for a little while!

Warm regards,

Kiki
