Dear future host family,

My name is Yara, I’m fifteen years old and I’m very glad to have the opportunity to spend a year with your family.

I’m open-minded, responsible and friendly. I work hard at school to have good grades. I love travelling because I like meeting new people and learning about different cultures. I like learning languages. I speak five languages: Spanish, Basque, English, German and French. I enjoy reading, listening to music and hanging out with my friends. I like reading books, I usually read fantasy. I usually read books in both English and Spanish. I love listening to music and going to concerts. My favourite artist is Taylor Swift, but I also like Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo…I’ve been to Taylor’s, Olivia’s and Gracie’s concerts. I go out with my friends almost every weekend. I have a lot of friends both at school and at the place I go on holidays. I also play basketball and attend violin lessons, but my true passion is riding horses.

I ride horses twice a week. I've been riding horses for five years. I do eventing which is show jumping, dressage and cross country, and my favourite part is the cross country because I like going fast and jumping high. I’ve taken part in several competitions. I did an endurance race of 40 kilometres, but I didn’t like it as much as I like jumping. Riding horses has helped me to create a stronger bond with animals and nature.

I live with my parents and my siblings. My parents are very supportive, they always encourage me to try new activities and follow my dreams. I’ve got two younger siblings, a sister and a brother, and I love spending time with them. My sister is very nice and creative, and my brother is athletic and mature for his age. Even though I don’t live in the same house as my grandparents, they are a very important part of my family. They have taken care of me and my siblings many times throughout the years. I sometimes have to take care of my siblings, my three year old cousin and some friends.

In the future, I would like to study something related to languages. At the moment, I’m thinking about doing a degree in applied languages in Granada, because it gives me the opportunity to study in three different countries and understand their cultures.

During my stay abroad, I would like to improve my English and become more fluent in speaking it. I think that living with a host family will help me achieve that goal more quickly. I would also like to participate in school activities such as clubs or sports. I hope to learn about your culture and traditions. I’d like to experience your daily life to better understand your country. I also hope to share my own culture with you, so we can learn from each other’s culture.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Best wishes,

Yara
